This edition also marks the eighteenth year that the cover features a design produced by the students. Although this year's cover design contest attracted the fewest entries in a number of years, the yearbook staff feels that you will be pleased with the selection made, The 1983 edition also marks the thirtieth year that Mr, LeBlanc has served as faculty adviser. The staff wishes to thank him for the many hours he devotes to its preparation, Finally, the staff wishes to thank the 1983 PIRATES LOG. Dedication MRS. SHIRLEY HOOVER The 1983 PIRATES LOG staff and the Harrisville Central School faculty are proud to dedicate this, the thirtieth edition of our school yearbook, to Mrs. Shirley Hoover. In her own quiet manner, she has given much of her time and talent to the education of the youth of Harrisville. She has rarely been known to refuse a request for help, be it in the classroom or after school hours. It is our pleasure to extend to Mrs. Hoover our gratitude. We trust this dedication will have, in some measure, repaid her for her generosity. Administration SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS EDWARD A. Third place in the first tourney went to Darren Burgess. John McIntosh, Todd Campbell, and Brian McIntosh played well in a losing cause. John and Ed McIntosh bowed in the semi-finals of the fall classic, dropping 2-1 matches to Danny and Mike. Other contestants in addition to those listed above were Joe Clement, Mike Hawthorne, Donna Collette, Scott Hunter, Jeff Baker, and Jeff LaPar. Mr. LeBlanc sponsored and supervised the event. Activities National Honor Society Three new members were welcomed into the Lake Bonaparte Chapter of the National Honor Society on October 21, 1982, by Miss Linda Canfield, president of the local chapter. The new inductees were Matthew O'Bryan, Class of 1983, and Kevin Gratzer and Jeneen Phillips, Class of 1984. Following a turkey dinner prepared by the ladies of the cafeteria and served by three girls from Mrs. Hoover's Foods class, Edward McIntosh, secretary-treasurer, called the roll of new members. Mothers of the inductees pinned their son or daughter. Timothy LaDuc, vice- president, presented the new -members with a membership card and certificate, and the honorary pass which admits an NHS member to.all school- and class-sponsored activities while he or she is a student at Harrisville Central. A coat-sweater was presented to each a few weeks later. Mr. Edward Shafer, serving his first year as superintendent of schools, was the guest speaker. Focusing his comments on the quality of leadership, he outlined five points which, he stated, were vital to insure effective leadership: concern for the people served, creativity, hard work and commitment, pursuit of ways and opportunities to lead, and finally, humility. It should be noted that the Lake Bonaparte Chapter received its charter thirty years ago and has been advised through all these years by Mr. Marcel LeBlanc. front: Edward McIntosh, secretary-treasurer, Linda Canfield, president, Timothy LaDuc, vice-president; back: Mr. and Mrs. Gerald McIntosh, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Canfield, and Mr. and Mrs. Stephen LaDuc. front: Matthew O'Bryan, Jeneen Phillips, and Kevin Gratzer; back: Mr. and Mrs. Michael O'Bryan, Mr. and Mrs. James Phillips, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gratzer.
