FOREWORD Two men, sitting at windows in different parts of the same town, noticed the faint glow cast by a half-dozen neon lights. If it weren't for the unusual darkness of this night, thought the first, it might not be seen. But then, this neither surprised nor shocked him. During his stay in this town, he had also noticed how narrow and broken were its streets, how provincial its stores, how unassuming its places of worship, how limited its cultural activities. The second man also noticed the reddish glow of the lights. But to him the threatening clouds above were somehow less ominous because of it. But then, everything about this town impressed him: the beauty of the stately maples along its streets, the concern of its storekeepers, the sincerity of its worshippers, the ingenuity of its citizens. Yes, this was his hometown, and, however humble it might appear to an outsider , to him, it was the center of his universe, the core of his existence. KATHUSeN MCRFf r r

Z !- □ DEDICATION When Harrisville welcomed its new Supervising Principal in the Fall of 1955, it was generally agreed that his chief task would necessarily be the construc- tion of a new school plant. We need not at this time review the many problems which an undertaking of this nature raises. We need only comment that these were more than adequately met. Proof of this rests in the imposing structure now in use, a structure which will always stand as a memorial to his deeply felt belief that only as a result of unselfish giving on the part of all - student, teacher, citizen - can the best be attained in the education of our youth.
