HARKISVILLE CENTRAL SCHOOL THE FOREWORD Two men, sitting at windows in different parts of the same town, noticed the faint glow cast by a half-dozen neon lights. If it weren't for the unusual darkness of this night, thought the first, it might not be seen. But then, this neither surprised nor shocked him. During his stay in this town, he had also noticed how narrow and broken were its streets, how provincial its stores, how unassuming its places of worship, how limited its cultural activities. The second man also noticed the reddish glow of the lights. But to him the threatening clouds above were somehow less ominous because of it. But then, everything about this town impressed him: the beauty of the stately maples along its streets, the concern of its storekeepers, the sincerity of its worshippers, the ingenuity of its citizens. Yes, this was his hometown, and, however humble it might appear to an outsider , to him, it was the center of his universe, the core of his existence. KATHUSeN MCRFf r r Z !- □ DEDICATION When Harrisville welcomed its new Supervising Principal in the Fall of 1955, it was generally agreed that his chief task would necessarily be the construc- tion of a new school plant. We need not at this time review the many problems which an undertaking of this nature raises. We need only comment that these were more than adequately met. Proof of this rests in the imposing structure now in use, a structure which will always stand as a memorial to his deeply felt belief that only as a result of unselfish giving on the part of all - student, teacher, citizen - can the best be attained in the education of our youth. (The LEMONS make the hair lighter.) Gordon Wood bequeaths to Donald Rose his ability to solve math problems. (On second thought, Don, maybe you had better use your own ability.) Carole Ripley is the proud receiver of the black skirt she has wanted for so long. You may pick it up from Kay anytime, Carole. Murray Collette wills to Judy Bradish his darkening blond curls. (She was the first of many to ask for them.) Mae Solon gives to Pat Lesperance her outstanding ability to get along with her most revered teachers. (If she has any.) Since Joe Atkinson didn’t use the muscles willed to him last year, he thinks David Collette may be able to use them. (Use them any way you wish, David) Tom Cassidy leaves to Richard Best and Francis Rounds his earnest hopes of growing taller. Dale Miller leaves to Malen LaCross his ability to twirl. Dale doesn’t want the band to be without a drum major next year. Joyce Remington leaves to Sharon Ritz her giddy laugh. She feels that a homeroom teacher would be lonesome without someone with such a laugh. Matty Norris says he doesn't have anything to leave to anyone. He wants to take it all with him. Norma Luther leaves to Keatha Graham her ability to count large sums of money accurately, a quality she will need as next year's Senior treasurer. Gerald Humes cedes to Douglas Quackenbush his skill in shooting baskets; the PIRATES should be able to win them all next year. Steven Ripley is the proud receiver of Ellen Jenack’s ability to write literate letters, to be used when writing to that certain person in Syracuse. Doran Kitts leaves to ’Wesley Parow his unlimited vocabulary to use whenever and however he needs to. Richard LaPlatney leaves to Elton Wood and James Phillips his fond hope of growing shorter for a change. Eleanor LaPlatney yields half of her bouncing energy to James Wray and Michael Earl. (She was going to leave it all but decided she might have need of some.) Frances Geer leaves to Arlene Phillips and Thelma Sullivan the red striped slacks she wore to typing test in January. (Be careful, girls, only one at a t ime.) Linda Ritz, to Charlotte Jackson, her average in English IV so she may raise it a little more. Bob Ford wills to John Naccari some of his quiet personality so that he may be able to get and keep a girl. Suzanne Luther leaves to Carol Sweet her bobby pins and curlers in hopes that she may never have to use them. Jim Bradish bestows on Morris Hart the ability to catch rich girls, an ability willed to him by last year's class. Bill Priest cedes the Hot Rod to David LaPlatney. The ability to take Pa’s car is gladly relinquished to Sharon Fraser by Lee Clary. noran Fraser leaves his French (?) to Peter Blanchard and Albert Moroughan. This French is good for any country except France. Leland Ryan bequeaths to Gary Gray his sugar bush on the hill. To anyone we might have overlooked we bequeath whatever they may find once we have left these halls.
