First to receive this coveted award was Miss Helen Weekes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Weekes. A short time later, Don Hathway, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Hathway, was notified that the Carthage Chapter had awarded him a similar award. Homeroom teacher: Mrs. Mona Tiffany HOMEMAKER AWARD The annual Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Future competition was held during the Fall. All Senior girls, whether enrolled in homemaking courses or not, were eligible to take part. The competitive exam- ination involves basic skills and appreciations related to the intelligent administration of a house- hold. It presupposes the ability to think precisely and effectively. Miss Gertrude Weaver received the highest rating and was declared the local 1953 Homemaker of the Future winner. She received the Betty Crocker Pin as evidence of her accomplishment.
