We, the Class of 1957, in deepfelt appreciation of his sterling leadership and counseling wish to dedicate this, the 1957 Harrisonian to Mr. Platt, our class sponsor. The wheels of time move swiftly forward. We cannot return to the past; therefore the present must be wisely used for the future to have real significance. Your 12 years in school are a preparation for a more extensive education. Let those years be not wasted for the gears of the wheels of time can never be reversed. the HARR,s onian ADMINISTRATION LOWELL CLINE Principal MERRITT REED County Superintendent VERNON FUSON Trustee HIGH SCHOOL FACULTY ROBERT BOGGS MELVIN CONNER CIETIS LEWIS BARBARA CARTER Physical Education Business Education Music Science JOHN WRIGHT HAL PLATT CATHY FEWELL Agriculture Social Science English ELEMENTARY FACULTY EVA SELLERS BLANCHE McDANIEL MILDRED NOTTINGHAM BERNICE OLIVER ElVA SMITH MARY MILLER LENA JANE LAWSON CHARLENE SPENCER SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS President: JERRY MIFFLIN Treasurer: BOB COLTER Vice President: PAT PAINTER Business Manager: PHIL GLAZE Secretary: ROSE ANN SHULL Sponsor: HALBERT PLATT Sponsor: HAL PLATT DONALD ALBERT FEDOR Don Work fascinates me, I could sit and watch it for hours. CLASS PROPHECY After many years of experimentation the first successful space ship has finally been launched by the eminent Dr. Albert Fedor. Being personal friends of Dr. Fedor's we. Bob Colter and Judy Irwin, are to be the first to receive the honor of operating a space ship. From our position, 300 miles out in space, we see a crowd gathering around what used to be the location of old HHS before the GREAT FIRE, which was started when Butch Wininger accidently kicked the automatic stoker while carrying off government lunch meat. On closer inspection we find the occasion to be the dedication of a new school and drag strip. We see the ceremonies are about to begin. Let us move closer. Jerry Thompson has just arrived on foot bearing the OFFICIAL OPENING TORCH. Wanda Nichols nearly falls from her seat on the fence as Rose Ann Shull, star of radio and television, strikes her high note singing the NATIONAL ANTHEM. The benediction given by Rev. John Brubaker, is followed by the introduction of the Mother of the Year, Linda Marsh, who is seated in a special box with her twelve children; this is interrupted by the entrance of Dave Hiser, Father of the Year, with his present wife and three of his ex-wives. We see very few familiar faces of the faculty. However, the old standbys Hal Platt (now completely bald) and Melvin Conner (discoverer of WILD TOOT HAIR GROWING TONIC) are present. The Mistress of Ceremonies, Shod Townsend, is introducing the judges of the race who are local celebrities. Phil Glaze, Mayor of Cantrallville; Adalee Lovern, famed music teacher; and Dick Brown, new principal of Harrison High School. Run- ning through the crowd are Wayne Lee selling popcorn, and Carolyn Sites hunting autographs. Among the employees are Jim Brown, official starter; Bob Crozier, ambulance driver; and Darwin Clevenger, head mechanic. Everyone's attention is drawn to the sky as Judy Cox, winner of the POWDER PUFF DERBY, comes soaring in bringing with her Evelyn Gasper the beauty queen for today's dedication. Today's meal has been planned by Marilyn Holloway, dietician for the new school and served with the cooperation of Joan Scales, Home Ec. teacher, and the enter- tainment is to be provided by the girls' Physical Education Department under the direction of Lois Ann Short. All proceeds from the event are to go to charity since the services of Jerry Mifflin construction engineer and his private secretary, Joyce Harless, have been donated. The entire project is being financed by Pat Painter, owner of a chain of launderettes and manager of EDWARDS GROCERIES, INC. As our ship gains altitude we faintly see Janet Antrim, famous woman driver, and Don Bailey, top male driver, climbing into their cars for the first race on the drag strip. But wait! There's a man on the track. Oh, we see, it's Jim Nauman wealthy insur- ance salesman selling policies to the drivers. His one hand set shot from the side is a weapon that teams don't like to encounter. Harrison will miss Jerry next year. BUTCH WININGER Senior Guard Butch, having three years of experience, two at Harrison and one at Cowan, is a competitive scrapper all the way and his favorite shot is a jump shot which breaks up many defensive ball games. Butch will also be missed next year. BOB COLTER—Senior Forward Bob, having two years of first team experience, is a guy that likes keen competition and is a work horse under every basket. Bob's one hander from the side breaks up many games for a foe. PHIL GLAZE-Senior Guard Phil, having two years of first team experience, is a real threat all the way. Having one of the best one- handed shots in the game Phil can break an opponent's back at any given time.
