The year is 1970 as Carlecta Carl and I, Jim Beedle, start our campaign for the 1970 census. We are now in New York, and we came upon Hilda Sollars. You would hardly recognize her. She contributed to the census wholeheartedly as she has six little Hildas. The next door bell we ring really gives us a jolt. It is the household of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Chandler. Mrs. Chandler happens to be Opal Swoape, one of our former classmates. Mrs. Chandler tells us that living next door to her is another of our classmates, the former Miss Francis Long, now the mother of two little boys. Next we travel to Washington, D.C., where much to our surprise we found the Speaker of the House of Representatives to be Martha Nauman. Martha tells us that the President is very ill and that Doctor Nancy Robbins is his attending physician. Next we go to Philadelphia. Here we hear there is to be a very exciting baseball game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies. We take in the ball game and find John Wray is the star pitcher for the Dodgers. We also met Ann Harrold, who is working as a teacher of ballet at one of the Arthur Murray studios. After more traveling we find Charles McKay in Detroit, test driving cars for the Ford Motor Corporation. Thirteen years ago John Drayer and Richard Bailey enlisted in the U. S. Army; now we find Richard to be a Corporal and John still a Buck Private. Mary Clark and Evelyn Gregory have joined the Navy. It seems Mary is spending most of her time on K. P. duty. Evelyn is married to a fellow in the Marines and has a son whose chief ambition is being a pilot in the Air Force. As we journey back to our old stamping grounds we find quite a change at old H.H.S. Now Dee Clevenger is principal and Joyce Yeager is music teacher. We find Norman Borror as chief Janitor. Herschel Brown owns 1000 acres of land and is really farming big. Herschel said that Jerry Fuson is his hired man. In Indianapolis we discover that Mrs. James Buchanan, formerly Patty Stephenson, is a private secretary for a very prominent lawyer, Larry Hargis. Harrold Hiestand is making a profitable living at his old job of trapping. We see that everyone received a good education at Harrison Twp. High School.
