JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY We started in the first grade in September of 1937, with twenty-six members in the class. Donald Kelley, Dick Fedor, Paul Smith. Barbara Sites, Susan Benadum and Wanda Finley were the six members of the present Junior class who started to school that Fall. Our first grade teacher was Miss Main (now Mrs. Yount). Our principal at that time was Mr. G. R. Osborn. Miss Main happily turned us over to Mrs. McDaniels, our second grade teacher, the following Fall. When we entered the third grade we discovered Mrs. Gwaltncy was in the hospital suffering from a broken neck; however, we managed to get along with the substitute teacher, Mrs. Don Gossett, and liked her very well. At the end of the first semester Mrs. Gwaltney came back to take her place as our teacher. Mrs. Gwaltney passed us on to the fourth grade where we had Miss Opal McCrcery (now Mrs. Carnes) as our teacher. Mrs. Smith was our fifth grade teacher. We were very anxious to get in the sixth grade for our fist new man teacher. Some members of the class found that Mr. McCreery could swing a paddle harder than the women teachers, but we all liked him. Upon entering the assembly we found that it is not as funny as we dreamed. There were too many teachers to ‘ake off deportment. Our first class sponsor was Mr. White. We had a new principal that year whose name was Mr. Darrell Miller- When we entered the eighth grade we got a new sponsor, Mrs. Mabes Thornburg. When we entered the ninth grade we were proud to take the name Freshmen. That year we were fortunate in getting Mr. Reasoner as our principal and coach. We were especially proud that year because that was the first year for our boys to be able to play on the high school basketball team. Harrison won its first game that year. It was the first game Harrison had won for many years- The Sophomore year was about the same only more exciting because we won more ball games. At last we are Juniors The seniors and juniors had a carnival October 17th. The juniors were very grateful to the seniors for turning their part of the money over to the junior class. This year we have only twelve in our class, but after all who wants a big class! We have a lot of fun even if there are just a dozen of us. We were lucky enough to have a very nice sponsor this year whose name is Mr. Glen Galbraith. Our class is striving to get enough money ' give the seniors a reception. We haven’t given up hopes yet because we believe that miracles do happen even though you have to work for them Wanda Finley
