And the doors, responding to our inner urges to learn more and more, spread wide and allowed us to enter the hallway, which, in time, would lead us to the great shining door. We rimidly walked down the hall to a fairly good-looking door, which, we were told, would open with ease to very little keys. As we passed on down this hallway, we learned that these might not always be keys of metal, but rather of spirit. Now we started up a stairway, the climb eliminated a few, but most of us toiled onward. We came to another door, rang the bell, and waited: slowly, majestically, it opened. This was where we learned that it often requires time to do things, and that we must 1'1Ot he in too great a hurry to get things done. By now the stairway had become hard to climb, and more of our group dropped out, but some help arrived and with renewed vigor, we continued on our way. We attacked the last flight with enthusiasm and great anticipation. We have learned how to do things better, so, as a result, the climbing seems easier. Soon we will reach the top and behold the Great Door. It will be a door, carved and ornate, which will open to the far reaching patio, Life. This door is more than just another door, it is the result and symbol of 'twelve years of work and play, of fun, and, of course, worry. We have traveled through many hallways whose pictured walls have taught us many lessons. VVe have been guided through a maze of diverging pathways which have ever beckoned us to galleries and pleasures which would deter us from reaching our goal. However, now with the great shining Doorway opening before us-wide horizons-becoming ever broader as we approach the door, assure us that we have achieved our goal. Before us, lay Adventure, Responsibility, and all the joys and troubles from which we must build Life. -S'mNLEr R. Meeting. 20-Won First football game. 24-Seniors had pictures taken at Shillito's. 25-Skating party given by the Seniors. 26-Maslowski talked for our assembly -about wild life in Yellowstone Park. I 27-Another football game, we won Oct. 3- again. We lost our first football game- Greenhills. 4-Iuniors had a dance. 11-We won another game - Mt. Healthy. 14-Everyone was running away from the Seniors, they started selling Vistas. 17-P.T.A. Meetingg school was out at 2:30. 18-Colerain came over - score was 6 to 6. 24-Another defeat-Taylor. 25-Iuniors gave another dance. Nov. 1 -Last football game of the year- Victory over Sharonville. 14-The Seniors were measured for I5 19 22 27 29 caps and gowns. -Iunior Class Play- The Cuckoo's Nest. -Our first basketball gameg we beat Okeana. -Defeated by Whitewater. -Sophomore assemblyg Rev. Poppe spoke. -Thanks ivin vacation at last, S g . everyone was happy again. 30-P.T.A. Dance, and on a Saturday night, too! Page Fourteen Dec. Ian. Feb. Mar. Apr. May 6-Greenhills defeated us. Io-Our good luck started again, we beat Ukeana. 13-Freshman assembly consisted of a Christmas story and carols. I7-Bright defeated us in our last 1946 game. I8-Christmas Cantata directed by Mr. Wendling. zo-Glee Club presented the Cantata for assembly. Everyone went to the show in the afternoon. 6-School starts. Io-Taylor basketball gameg there. 15-Semester exams begin. 17-Mt. Healthy game. 22-Guilford-here. 24-Again we met Taylor, here. 28-Bright-here. 31-Finally came Sharonville. 4-Springfield-here. 6-Faculty - Board Dinner. 7-Colerain-again. 10-The long awaited tournament. 14-Vista Staff Assembly. zo-Vista Supper. 21-Coronation Ball-Super! 14-Senior Play- Almost Eighteen. zo-Puppet Show in auditorium. 21-22-Music auditions, Oxford. 28-Commercial Club Assembly. 28-G.R. Candlelight Service. -Easter Vacation. -School commences. rr-Iuniors had Moonlight Excursion. Page Fifteen Vista Valentine The Vista Assembly on Friday at nine, Was a most lovely tribute to St. Valentine. A sweet little colleen, our Rosie McGuire Led the way to that fair land we call I-Iearts' Desire. Peeping forth from the target of sly Cupid's dart, A gaily, be-ruffled, be-ribboned, red heart. The curtains then parted enough to reveal A gay Valentine box and our Postmistress Viel, Who read, with her usual charm and quick wit, From each Valentine's message, a humorous bit Or sentiments tender and sweet with romance, Giving pleasure to all, one could see at a glance And since there's no love at all without a song, Marianna played softly, to help things along. At last Mr. Wendling with wittiest art, Led the classic beloved, Let Me Call You Sweetheart. And then for good measure, the Boys' Bridge Club met And we looked in on Gene getting everything set. Greeting Stanley and Allen fthey really were cute,j Crying Open the door Richard and in walked Dick Fruit The poet has said that from blunders 'twould free us To see our own selves as some others do see usg So here was the chance for both matron and maid To see how a bridge game should never be played. An innovation this year was the Harrison Hollowe'en Party, at which the band led the parade. On the evening of November eleventh the American Legion held an Armistice celebration for which the band supplied the music. The Fathers' Night P.T.1l. program which is always looked forward to with great anticipation. gave the hand its next opportunity for a concert appearance. As usual the band program of the year reaches its culmination with its appearance in the celebration with the American Legion on Decoration Day. Harrison Music Groups looked forward with delight to the opportunity of again taking part in the event. The Girls' ensemble received the rating of Superior which is the highest rating awarded. Having worked diligently under Mr. Wendling's guidance they were gratified to receive the rating which automatically entered them in the state hnal held at Ohio State University. For their splendid performance in the all-state competition, the ensemble received a rating of Excellent which was a satisfactory climax to a successful season. Rita Means, singing in her usual artistic manner, was awarded the rating of Excellent in the auditions at Miami University. Dole, C. llllwvl 1'c18'l' lfffiy-lfizfc' Football The Harrison High School Team started off with 58 members on the squad. Under the supervision of I. R. Swisher, a team began to take shape. The Hrst game was at home. We played Glendale. With the effective blocking of their team mates, Fred Dole and Carl Duwel made some 60 and 70 yd. runs. Dole made 3 touchdowns. One was set up by Duwel on a seventy yd. run, and another was passed to Dole by Frey. The game ended 19-12. Aurora was the next squad. Our boys met at the Harrison Field. The Wildcats marched through Aurora for another victory. Touchdowns were made by Duwel, Bybee, and Frey. On the offense, the bacl-:field stood out, but on the defense Aurora ran into a brick wall when Ronnie Meyers, Richard Fruit, and Paul Duck- worth held the line. The last quarter was played by the five reserves. In the third game of the season, Harrison met the strong Greenhills team. You have to give the boys credit for trying but it seems that they met their better opponents when Greenhills defeated them 21-6. The fourth game was played at Mt. Healthy. Both teams played a very hard game, on a muddy Held. At the half there was no score. The second half started with Harrison receiving. On a reverse play Duwel ran the entire length of the field only to be knocked out of bounds a few yards from paydirt. Two plays later, Frey carried the ball over for the Hrst touchdown. Mt. Healthy later made two touch- downs. Duckworth intercepted a Mt. Healthy pass and ran for a touchdown. The score was tied, I3 to 13. With less than I0 seconds to play Dole ran some 60 yards for a final touchdown with excellent blocking from the rest of the team. With mud up to their knees the boys fought hard and tied Colerain 6-6. Harrison's touchdown was made when a long, beautiful pass was thrown by Bybee to Ronnie Meyers. Colerain got as far as the one foot line several times. They found them- selves unable to go any farther due to the tackling of Fruit, Meyers and Duckworth. Forty to nothing was the score of the next game-Taylor 40, Harrison, o. The squad tried their best against Taylor, but were unable to succeed in scoring against Tayl0r's team work. The last game of the season was played with Sharonville. The Wildcats defeated Sharonville I8-14. The First touchdown was made by Frey. Receiving a short pass from Dole, he ran 40 yeards to cross the goal line. Sharonville scored and went ahead 8-6. Dole scored on a IO yard run making it I2-8. The first league game was December 6. against Greenhills, at Harrison. At the half time we were trailing by I3 pointsg 14-27. The third quarter started out with a bang and though we outscored them by I0 points in the last half they had too much of a lead, and our boys were defeatedg 34-SI Our next league game was played December I3 at Colerain. The first half rolled around and we had a 5-point lead. In the last quarter, Colerain went ahead by three points. With less than three minutes to play, Ronnie Meyers dropped in two baskets and brought us in the lead again. The game ended with Harrison winning by 1 pointg -go-51. On our own floor, Ianuary 17, we played Mt. Healthy for our third league game. There was never more than a four point difference at any time. Bob Campbell was good on the offense with Richard Fruit as the outstanding defensive player. The final score was 25-29. Harrison and Taylor tangled Ianuary 24. Going into the second quarter with the lead of 3 points, we were stopped and Taylor took the lead by 4 points. The team fought hard in the last half but Taylor held the lead to wing 38-29. Fruit made 9 points. At Sharonville the first 16 minutes were strictly defensive with the quarter score, Sharonville, 123 Harrison, 6. In the last half Sharonville couldn't miss. The Final score was 13-35. Springfield and Colerain were the next two practice games on our schedule. Our boys were victors in both games. The tournament was held at Xavier Field House. We were matched against Anderson. The first quarter was close. At the half we were nine points behindg but the team tried in vain to get back on its feet. The final score was 22-37. In the next game we had to beat Mt. Healthy or be eliminated from the tournament. The Wildcats started out fast. We gained a Eve point lead by the half. Mt. Healthy then worked in a couple fast ones and left us with a one point lead. At the end of the fourth quarter the score was 27-27. In an overtime Mt.
