Sport Ghmpses As our athletlc program got under way for the school year 1940 41 the Tenms team was furst to round mto play Our racket swmgers had qulte a successful season, beatmg Aurora s boys and glrls teams After Tenms came the beglnmng of Foot ball practice The fellows who came t b gan tossmg' the pgskln around and soon the Coach had the squad chosen The boys who made the team trxed hard and lacked ex perlence only If more larger fel lows would come out for Football we are sure our team would have a much better record Following Football came the sport that ls the favorlte at Harrlson You guessed It Basketball' From Nov ember 8 to tournament tlme whlch came the latter part of February the boys racked up flve wms agamst ten losses One of the odd mcxdents that the team remembers IS Mt Healthvs centers makmf' a field goal for us the must have been dazedj whlch turned out to be the wmmng marker Another was the siege of Illness that riddled our Club durmg the mlddle of the seaf- son On February 21 the W1ld cats journeyed to St Bernard to play Ml8mlt0Wh in the fxrst round of the County Tournament They succeeded In wmmng one game but only to be beaten the followmg evemng by St Bernard Another misfortune to our team came on the tenth of January, when one of the regulars broke out with the measles durmg the second quarter Although our record wasnt lmpressxve we gave the opposltlon plenty of com petltlon m many games Durmg the games we had good backmg by the organized cheerlng sectlonlll The Reserves enJoyed a very un successful season Reason mex perlence' Slnce glrls basketball was ruled out and a second boys team came mto exlstence we need coaches ln the grade schools to glV9 the boys added experlence The Athletlc Ban quet was held March 4 at whlch txme Varslty letters were presented The Jumors carried the class tourn ament But boy was that Junxor Senlor girls game close' The referees stxll hear about lt occaslonally After basket ball came the all around game of the year thats the tltle for Table Tenms lh Harrx 'lon Hxgh School Another table was added thls year but we could use several more As sprmc' came into view the boys cleared the tenms courts and the players dusted off thelr rackets More Matches wlth Aurora' A couple days later the boys and teachers started to twlrl the horse- shoes Meanwhlle the baseball team was roundlng mto shape Out of the thxrty flve that came out a squad of elghteen was plcked New umforms were glven fthe flrst m 14 years!
