Reminiscence I960 PRESENTED BY THE CLASS OF I960 'P'toloyue While we, the class of 1960, were undergoing the rigors of our senior year, we were often inclined to despair of ever hearing the strains of Pomp and Circumstance at graduation. Although our final year at Harrison High School was marked by many joys and sorrows, triumphs and failures, in retrospect, these were not as world-shaking as they seemed. The important fact remains — we were presented with a challenge, and we met it to the best of our abilities. Throughout our years at Harrison High School, our minds were exposed to the guiding influences of our teachers and to the high academic standards of our school. We were given every opportunity to develop our individual characters through a liberal education and by participation in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Our teachers always stressed the value of an open, unprejudiced mind in dealing with complicated situations. The basic training that we received both in academic studies and in the fundamental principles of our society will always be our greatest asset in coping with the problems of our world. ‘Dedtcttft t MR. BRIGGS: We the Class of 1960 dedicate this yearbook, our final achievement in Harrison High, to you, our faculty advisor. Everything we did, we did as a team. We worked and you guided in your own natural, humorous, and democratic way. Our goals have been achieved. We are leaving with a feeling of success and will always remember you for being the regu- lar fellow you are. Thanks again. Mr. Briggs. Contents Faculty........ Seniors........ Features ...... Underclassmen. Activities..... Sports......... Advertisements Left to right: Mr. John Drew, Mr. William Ruder, Mr. Joseph A. B. Fred Langworthy. Mr. Francis W. Carpenter. Vassallo, President; Mr. Board of Education LOL’fS M. KLEIN Superintendent of Schools Administration TO THE CLASS OF 1960: First of all, let me congratulate each of you on your graduation from Harrison High School and let me extend to every graduate my best wishes for a successful future. I should like to remind each of you of the extreme im- portance to you of your name, your reputation, your char- acter. Keep on building and developing your own char- acter in the best sense of the meaning of that word. A good reputation as an honorable man or woman with ex- cellent character and integrity will be a priceless posses- sion to you as you go through life. In this day and age when you have seen so much evidence of a lack of moral leadership, honesty and integrity in many high places, it is important that you continue to place a high value on those qualities that make up character. These qualities include honesty, integrity, fairness, consideration of the other fellow, loyalty to family, church or synagogue, and self. One of life's most important possessions is a good name and reputation. May you always so conduct yourself that you will develop the kind of reputation of which all of us can be proud. Cordially, Superintendent of Schools Principal TO THE CLASS OF 1960: Each year brings new challenges to our young men and women graduating from our high schools and colleges. The year 1960 is no exception. The world needs leadership, a strong leadership, motivated by ideals which re- flect a concern for all mankind. It is the duty of every member of the Class of 1960 to con- tinue to develop the talents which God has given him so that each may make his con- tribution toward making this a better world. Will you accept the challenge? I feel con- fident you will. Sincerely, Principal Seniors, you may be proud of the part you have taken in accomplishing many things while attending Harrison High School. You will be leaving this school a better place because you have lived here. The world will be a better world because you and oth- ers like you will do everything you can to raise the social and educational standards of the future. Good Luck, ?. JhwJh MR. NELSON E. Tauro Bob Eileen Monk As freshmen beginning our first year at Harri- son High School in September 1956, we thought of June 1960, as a time hidden in the depths of the future. The past four years although fleeting have given considerable insight into the realities of life. We have experienced the fruits of hard work, the pride taken in a job well done, the fun and frolic of merriment, and, at times, the dis- couragement of failure. Now, the time has come for the class of 1960 to part. Each of us must blaze a new and different path in life, rely- ing heavily on what has been achieved and learned at Harrison High. Whatever we do and wherever we are, the memories of our alma mater, and, of course, the cry of “Beat Rye!” will for- ever be dear to our hearts. ft
