From the time we entered Harrison High as eighth graders we have looked upon the Senior Class with great respect and yearned for the day when we ourselves would attain Mt. Olympus. In the eighth grade we entered High School with a vague sense of responsibility and understanding. As we passed up through the grades our feelings broadened and matured. We began to develop our own dehnite personalities. We learned to be independent, to make decisions on our own. With the help and encourage- ment of our teachers we have widened our Helds of interest and chosen the paths which we are to follow in later life. We hope that as you read our Remin- iscence for 57 it will recall pleasant memories, for we consider our High School years among the happiest of our lives. ffl fl . xHRQ!S0l Zin flllltmnriam CAROLE M. SHERNOFF Her name, immortal in the memory of her friends Will again bring back her laughter and her smile The happiness she gave to everyone she knew Will not be forgotteng it lives in every thought. 3 ' To You, M11 Fuller In appreciation of the unselfish time and effort which you have' given to us, we, the Class of '57 dedicate our Rem- iniscence to you, Mr. Paul Fuller. As our class sponsor you helped us through thick and thin, and without your guid- ance our yearbook would never have be- come a reality. You helped to make our five years at Harrison High a big success and to you we give our most sincere thanks. Administration and Faculty X Board of Education: Frederick L. Marshall, Jr., Jack Schleman, Joseph A. Vassallo, President, Leo T. Delaney, Anthony V. Sisca, M.D. MR. LOUIS M. KLEIN Superintendent of Schools 6 MR. ALEXANDER L. ARNING To the Class of l957: ic -ce aux.. MARY E. LALLY, B.S., M.A. Guidance Q Principal will you ever forget the rumbling bulldozers, the groaning steam shovels, or the dynamite blasts in the midst of a class discussion or a serious assembly program? Your senior year is an important one in the history of Harrison High School. These noises we hear are evidences of progress - national progress - more adequate facilities for a rapidly growing school population. The important element in progress, however, is not machines but man's God-given mind. It is here that progress is conceived and from here that it is directed. What will your mind conceive and direct? Will it make the world better? I'm sure it will. My best wishes to all of you. Sincerely yours Qmlai-UMA Alexander L. Football For the second year in a row, the Harrison Huskies wound up their season ahead in the winning column. Using the unbalanced line single wing attack of Coaches Young and Castelli, the team concluded the season with a five and two record and a tie for the SWIAC crown. The Huskies started the season well by trampling Hastings, and then continued on their victory march by knocking off Blessed Sacrament, Eastchester, and Pleasantville, Two weeks after defeating the Panthers, the Husky gridders came out on the short end of a score for the first time in two years, as they lost to Darien, in a game that probably no one will forget. To avenge this setback, the Harrison eleven, headed by Blackie Castiglia, Chippy Carlin, and Willie the toe Colangelo, ran over a desperate Edison Tech. In the last game of the year, the Huskies were upset by Rye, and had to settle for a tie for the SWIAC championship. 84 1 Q 1 C f. .. ,ii I sf George Chip Carlin 1 'ae iv S 5 Dave Carpenter '. 4. . Our cagers not only brought home the bacon, but the ham and pork as well. The hard-wood men from Harrison walked off with a double SWIAC crown, with both the J. V. and Varsity being triumphant, the Little Three crown, and the Section 1 Class B championship. The Huskies lost only four games while winning twelve during the regular season as two SWIAC pennants flew atop Harrison High School for the hrst time in a decade and a half. But the Huskies were not content with just winning the league crown, they wanted bigger and better things. Thus the Huskies, led by Chip Carlin, Blackie Castiglia, and Frank Sollazzo, romped to the Section 1 Class B championship. On their way to this crown, the Huskies swatted the Lakeland Hornets 86-55 in a game where Coach Fiore even allowed his managers to play. Then the Harrison five drubbed F. D. Roosevelt 78-56, to cop the championship and end the most successful cage season in Harrison's history. Husky I. V. Standing: Mgrs. Harrison possessed good material this year in Noah Klein and Mike Bisceglia running the 100, Rich Grimm and Ken 'Schwarz running the 440, Pete Geismar and Tip Galyon in the 880, Richie Santucci vaulting, Chip Carlin throwing the shot and broad-jumping, and Tom Allen heaving the discus and high-jumping. Altogether, the Husky Trackmen looked good in '57. umm. ' 90 Row 1: Coach Garrity, I.. Rosenthal, C. Madrazo, F. Madrazo, F. Castiglia, R. Kuller, N. Golden. Row 2: J. Cohn, R. Sollazzo, W. Baseball The 1957 version of the Husky baseball team was another success for Harrison High. Our success can not only be shown in the scoring column, but can also be described as a great improvement over the past year's fighting nine. Coach Ed Garrity's sluggers, consisting of seniors Blacky Castiglia, Willie Colangelo, and Fred Olsen along with many promising younger Huskies, fought vigorously to improve our records of the past. A change of time has occured, and it looks like in future years the Huskies will move to the cop of the Swiac. 91 Left to right: Bill Colangelo, Rich Rydell, Harvey Oshins, Rich Santucci, Tony Carpiniello, Chip Carlin, joe Bisignano, Rich Osterer, Bill Birnbaum, Fred Castiglia. OU For the past few years Harrison High has boasted of its excellent golf teams, and 1957 was no exception. Coach Fiore's squad, consisting of Chippy Carlin, Tony Car- piniello, Harvey Oshins, Joe Bisignano, Bill Birnbaum, and Richie Sanrucci again chipped their way to another successful season. 92 Varsity junior Varsity Dick Rydell, Tip Galyon, Jim Fiore, Tom Brunner Pete Geismar, Willy Colangelo, Joe Bisignano, Chip Car lin, Tony Carpiniello, Dick Rydell, Fred Castiglia. Mouda The Husky mouda team again proved themselves best in the area as they ended the '57 season with a 5-0 Swiac record. The highlight of the season was the winning of the Section 1, Class B trophy by the Husky trio of Rich Rydell, jim Fiore, and Tom Brunner. The Harrison J. V. did equally well, finishing the year with the same record as the varsity, The little fingermen, led by co-captains joe Bisignano and Fred Castiglia, proved that Harrison has the depth to keep the mouda trophies on the shelf for many years to come. 1? NV I Girls 9 Sports The 1956-57 season was an outstanding one in Girls Intramurals. Thanks to Mrs. Donley's help and supervision, many girls were able to take part in after- school sports. Eight basketball teams and twelve vol- leyball teams vied for championships. Seventy-eight girls and their partners enthusiastically participated in the Mixed Doubles Badminton Tournament. Since our spring sports were limited because of construction work on our ex-softball field, greater interest was shown in tennis and archery. Our appreciation goes to the girls who served as Leaders, refs, and scorers. 'tt- I Did you hear about . . . How to get out of the exercises. It all begins here. Oh, Mrs. Donley! What form!
