Our class has been fortunate in having a capable and devoted stage-crew in the person of our faculty advisor, Mr. Charles F. Dawson. He has ever been our strongest supporter and most willing helper, giving much of his time and effort to insure the successful run of our show. In gratitude for your constant friend- ship and encouragement, the class of '56 dedicates their final performance, Reminiscence, to you, Mr. 3 ALICE STEWART, N A Editor-in-Chiefs, -' 6 l ,N 0 .., .1 1 W, , '- I Q-.nf 4- , , ..v-v ,. -..,.-.. -On..- M... k..-a.-.4-.g.,,,-I , X ,x1.' ff ,X , f' ' l U .' 1 V, , . ww-W mfwww-4-w-rw-vw lllllllllllll X , N4 , 1 ff' - 'ii,fi'3w 'Ba V 9411-,v -may-.gn '., 4 5 H u l 'Q ,N ,, X1 11 lf T: 1 V - r Y! , W, , - ,, rv' W' . 1- W A 1,349-'ii 5' fy 9 :,1w.w.r,., ,L I 6 - , v. . 1' ,3igK'3jvgw.,- ' 4: V f ' --- ' W H -,, ITN? , ' A A ' f.:,n'-V13 rf - , , mv. . Vassallo Mr. jack Schleman Dr. Anthony V. Sisca Your schooling has exposed you to innumer- able opportunities for self development emo- tionally, morally, physically and academically. In addition to this exposure, you have been involved in numerous activities in your school life which have given you a foundation for the responsi- bilities of adult citizenship. With the preparation you have had in school and the line training you have had at home and in your respective churches and synagogues, you have a wonderful start in life. As you are about to graduate, I want to extend my best wishes to each of you for success and happiness in whatever you do in life. Superintendent of Schools. Zag, hr. 146-al., Louis M. KLEIN, MR. ALEXANDER L. ARNING QM Principal P' V To date your Senior Year has been one of historical significance. To date, in your minds, I am sure that the most impressive localahisrorical event was the successful completion by the football team of Harrison High School's first undefeated and un- tied season, climaxed by the impressive victory over Rye in which we prevented them from win- ning rheir thirty-fourth consecutive victory. On the national level we End committees from all of the forty-eight states meeting, at the re- quest of the President, to conduct the White House Conference on Education, while on the international level we had theheads of state meeting at Geneva to try to find the answer to the tensions threatening world peace. I feel confident that the members of the Class of 1956 are well qualiiiecl to make their contribu- tions to the solving of the problems of tomor- row, on all levels, as effectively as the football team ,solved the problem of conquering our seemingly invincible rivals. Good luck ro all of you! e Arnxmnarz L ARMNG, ' Principal. Q f ,jd j I f w M155 MARY LALLY, B.S.,M.A. Dean of Girls MR. PHILLIP CASTELLI, B.S.,M.S. In racking up their seven straight vic- tories, Coach Al Young's boys captured both the Little Three and Southern Westchester Interscholastic Athletic Conference crowns. The Huskies victory march was viewed with interest by most of the county with the climax coming on Thanksgiving Day with the tremendous upset of the Garnets of Rye High School. The Harrison single wing powerhouse, made up of almost the exact same team members as the 1954 squad, started the new campaign off with a bang by defeating SWIAC opponent Hastings by the score of 25-O at Hastings. Our organization and teamwork shown at the inaugural completely overwhelmed the Hastings eleven. The Huskies followed their good example in the first game by making quick business of Blessed Sacrament at our home field. The final score was 35-0 and as yet no one had come near the Har- rison goal line. The Maroon and White rolled over the Eagles of Eastchester in a like manner by the score of 19-O on a very muddy Harrison field. The passing and running of the Huskies ll were in high gear as eyes were now turned towards the Rye game. The undefeated, untied, and unscored upon record of the Huskies was kept intact as the Maroon and White vanquished Pleasantville on the Panthers field by the score of 12-O. This was our closest game to date and as a result of the win Harrison was tied with Rye for first place honors in the SWIAC. UNDEFEATED SEASON Harrison's spotless string continued the following week as the Huskies trounced F. E. Bellows High School by the score of 35-0. The Panthers were completely outclassed and outplayed as the Huskies not only chalked up their fifth straight win without a score by the opposition, but also notched up a Little Three victory. The next week Harrison was again triumphant on its own held. This time the Maroon and White defeated Edison Tech. by the score of 23-15. Interesting to note is the fact that the Huskies were scored upon for the first time in the season and twice our men had to come from behind. However, this situation proved to be good experience for the all-important Rye game. The tension mounted as the hnale was postponed because of bad weather to Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1955, a date that will long be remembered in Harrison High. Rye entered the fray carrying along a thirty-three game winning streakg Harrison, a comparatively young six game streak. Over 12,000 people at Rye's field watched the Huskies come from behind in the last fifteen seconds and defeat the favored Rye Garnets by the score of I5-12. This was a Htting climax to Harrison's greatest season. Though the Huskies will lose eight lettermen as a result of graduation, nevertheless, a good framework has been left for the years to come. The eight seniors who played their last game for Harrison on Thanksgiving were Russ Kirschenbaum, Wussy Basso, Tony Iacovelli, Mario Falco, Vinnie Nicita, Gene Fedele, jim Flanagan, and Willie Furman. VARSITY BASKETBALL The Harrison High basketball team had quite a successful season, finishing in third place in the South- ern Westchester Interscholastic Athletic Conference and tied for first place in the Little Three conference. Led by playmaker Blackie Castiglia, center Frank Sollazzo, excellent rebounders Chippy Carlin and Howie Califano, and the superb defensive work of Willie Furman, the Huskie cagers ended the season with a substantial record of nine wins and eight losses. Perhaps the most impressive win of the season, was the triumph over the strong Rye team on our home court. Counteracting this victory was the hard-fought two point loss to the rival Rye Garnets. However, the latter may well be considered the most exciting game of the Huskie season. In both Rye contests there was a constant continuation of the same tremendous spirit that has always been present when the two teams have met, be it on the gridiron or on the court. if If 1 Blackie Castiglia, the only member of the squad to make the All SWIAC team, displayed a great deal of skill in welding together the many plays which were so important in the scoring department. A fine rebounder and defensive guard is Chippy Carlin. Chippy, who was also in the high scoring bracket, helped spark the speedy quintet to its success- ful season. Frank Sollazzo, the only Sophomore on the varsity lineup, grabbed many rebounds throughout the sea- son. Frank's fighting spirit and fine ball-handling were shown at his every appearance. Another valuable asset to the Maroon and White was the fabulous defensive play of Willie Furman. An example of his fine defensive work was displayed in our victory over Rye, when Willie held Rye's top man, jim Peay to only eight points. The fifth ace of this year's team was the agile Howie Califano. Howie, who was also a good rebounder, was a main factor in breaking up opposing team's plays. Fortifying the starters were Jimmy Flanagan, Mossy Freeman, Billy Colangelo, Tony Carpiniello and Billy Murphy, all of whom were of key value in the Huskies fine season. !!5 we x X3 sis? in Y 7 My ye f .E tier isls 4 ff.f i.ise QE if :Q ggi J,- . More and more girls have participated in the program every year and this year was no exception. Almost every high school girl, re- gardless of age and ability has come out for at least one intramural sport. Every intramural sport was managed by able and interested high school girls. There were always willing 's RECAP assistants who made the duties of the managers so much easier by reffing, timing and scoring at each game. Many girls were anxious to earn their numerals, letters or pins by accumulating points based on their participation in the varied activities . . . A long round of applause goes to Mrs. Donley for instructing us with much patience and interest. lk MIXED BADMINTON TOURNAMENT i fs' I v '.: J ,, 't ' Row 1 : james Bulakowski, Pauline Jacobson, Mary Lou DiBetardino, Vivian Kroner, Steve Mauro, Michael Green, Iris Zeeman, Charles Madrazo.
