Calais ry September 1942 saw the entrance of another new group of eighth graders into our beautiful new building. In fact it was the third class to start from the eighth grade. While the class of ’47 was making its en- trance, the U. S. had almost completed its first year in the Second World War. We found it difficult at first to get accustomed to high school life. We could be heard asking where the gym, rooms 102 and 103, etc., could be found. We faithfully attended all school functions, were loyal to our Alma Mater, and soon became like any other H. H. S. student. Freshman year was the real beginning of our high school career. We were no longer considered the “babies.” Four year courses were in our thoughts and some of us already were making plans for post- graduation. Some of the boys went out for sports and the rest went to cheer the teams. We had our first class election with Mary Murray’s being elected President. Ah—Now we were Sophomores and were beginning to think of our ’47 yearbook. We gave a bridge for our parents and their friends which was a huge success. ‘Where’s Johnny?” a short play we chose to give, was also a success. More boys went out for sports and of course we were all worried about our studies. At this stage of the game we were three-fourths of the way through our four years and were important “upper class-men.” We made our name the first semester selling pins and stickers so that everyone could be properly identified as a student of H. H. S. We sold candy and hot drinks to cold spectators at the football games. The second semester we produced a three act comedy entitled “Where’s Laurie?” After many anxious moments the curtain closed on another Class of ’47 suc- cess. Encouraged by this, we turned our thoughts to our Junior Prom. Our hard work and enthusiasm were not in vain. Everyone enjoyed the dance and our Junior Year ended. At last—We had almost reached the goal for which we had been striving. Again we sold candy and hot drinks and this year our team made us very proud by playing a wonderful series of football games. We produced another play entitled “Nothing But the Truth.” As usual we were a bit worried, but the cast came through with a brilliant per- formance that surprised even themselves. REMINISCENCE was started so that the Class of ’47 would have something to remember its four years. So the time has come to say “So long” to dear old H.H.S. “So long” not “Good-Bye,” Alma Mater. We’ll be back to visit. Every year an election is held to determine the all-round boy and girl in the Senior Class. This year the Class of ’47 nominated for this honor Mary Murray, Annie Noyes, Lucy Spinazzola, Robert Berger, Paul Butt, and Anthony Trimarchi. When the entire school voted and the ballots were counted, the results showed that the student body of Harrison High chose Lucy and Hank to be the girl and the boy most deserving of this honor. HARRISON 6 - PEARL RIVER 33 After scoring a quick touchdown at the beginning of the game, the Huskies were stopped completely while the visitors scored five times. HARRISON 6 - EASTCHESTER 13 This game played at Eastchester was the most important for the Huskies. Eastchester scored seconds before the first half ended by recovering a Harrison fumble. The Maroon and White came charging back to score in the second half, but their kickoff was con- verted into another Eagle touchdown. HARRISON 40 - PLEASANTVILLE 0 Harrison resumed competition writh Pleasantville and gave the visitors a warm recep- tion by scoring six touchdowns. “Paul” “Tom” “Bill” “Joe” HARRISON 35 - BELLOWS 0 This game started “with a bang” as the Huskies scored three touchdowns in the first quarter. Two more scores, one in the second and another in the last period, completed the total while the impotent Panthers could not meet with any success with their plays. HARRISON 65 - TUCKAHOE 12 The Tigers of Tuckahoe came to Harrison for this game which turned out to be a field day for the Maroon and White. Scoring at least two touchdowns in every quarter, the Huskies ran all over the weak visitors. HARRISON 25 - EDISON TECH 21 This contest, played away, featured one of the most thrilling last quarters in Harrison grid history. After trailing by eight points at the beginning of this period, the boys passed and charged their way to three touchdowns while Edison scored once. HARRISON 13 - RYE 6 Rye came to Harrison for this game to decide second place in the S.W.I.A.C. and the Little Three championship. The teams were evenly matched and after a hard fought first period, the Huskies broke the ice in the second quarter. Harrison again scored in the second half taking the kickoff and marching up the field. Then the Garnets tallied. After that neither team again threatened seriously. “Accident?” “Pick him up, Joe!” 'ijardlty (JSadhetbaff SWIAC CL cun ipion5 The Huskies won the SWIAC league championship with an 8—2 standing and also the Little Three Crown with a 3—1 record. The Jayvees also won the SWIAC title with an 8—2 record. Coach Rosenthal and his basketeers are to be con- gratulated for their fine achievement. The outstand- ing feature of this winning aggregation has been the ability to rally in the late stages of the game and to come through with the victory. Excellent team spirit coupled with team play had much to do with the teams’ success. “Hank” Trimarchi was chosen all SWIAC guard on the first team and John Castiglia made the all SWIAC second team as forward.
