Prospects for the 1944 football team looked rather dis- heartening. However by displaying their fighting spirit, cour- age and determination the Huskies did win 2 games during the season. The first foe of the season was Bronxville. And although they won the game the Harrison eleven prooved that they had the material of a winning team. It took the team until the middle of the season until they were in top form. Under the mentorship of Assistant Coach Rosenthal the Huskies trounced Edison Tech with the score of 6 to 0. It was the first time a football team from Harrison had won a game since 1942 and the effect on the team and the school in general was tremendous. Good cheering and high school spirit helped a great deal in the winning of that game. During the rest of the season the team had to bear up un- der bitter defeats from Bellows and Rye, but they showed both teams a lot of good football in the games. In the last game of the season the Huskies smashed to a victory over a team from the New York School for Deaf. With the taste of victory still with them Harrison High school looks forward to a more successful season in 1945. Due to circumstances beyond our control four senior foot- ball players are not pictured here. These boys are in the armed services. They are: L. Bohl, D. Haynes, L. Verrilli, D. Curran. He has displayed his fine sportsmanship and leadership by being cap- tain of the Harrison High School Basketball Squad in both his sophomore and junior years. Many records have been broken and many news ones set by Bo-Bo.” In the Pleasantville game in 1944 he scored 28 points, the highest score ever reached by one player in one game. He also set the record forjoul shoot- ing by scoring 15 points on fouls in a game with Tuckahoe. At the end of this season his total score for the year was 304 points which not only broke his own record but also gave him the county record in A, B and C leagues. Joe s total average for the last 42 giraes he has played in is 16 points a game. Statistics prove that Joe is one of the greatest basketball players in Harrison High School’s history. We know that his fine ability and perseverance will bring him a successful future. ?• UJ The Harrison High School Basketball Team's first three games were with Chappaqua, Blessed Sacrament and Greenburgh. These non-league games proved to be just a preview for the excellent season in store for the squad. The Huskie s first SWIAC rival, Tuckahoe, gave Harrison a chance to prove their supremacy. The final score was Harrison 29, Tuckahoe 20. After a long winning streak the Huskies first losses were to the power- ful Eastchester and Bellows Squads. However disappointment was over- come by the defeat of Huskies biggest rival, Rye. When a very tall Pleasantville team was encountered for the first time Harrison suffered defeat but they revenged themselves in a later game. One of the most thrilling games of the year was played against Eastchester on the home court. The score kept changing favorites until in the last few seconds an Eastchester player put in the winning point. If that point had not been made Harrison would have won the SWIAC cup. The next six games were easy victories for the sqaad and scores for individual players were very high. At the end of the regular season the team accepted a bid to play in the county tournament in the County Cen- ter, White Plains.
