055 GIRLS SPORTS Trying to keep up with the numerous Physical Fitness bulletins that have come out of Washington and Trenton the past year is a difficult task Almost daily we have had one read to us in our Physical Education classes by Miss McDonald When you boil them all down they all have one underlying message keep fit and in good health lt seems to us that the Health Department both state and national has no worries insofar as our fitness is concerned Year in and year out we and our predecessors have enjoyed a comprehensive program of sports activ ities aimed directly at keeping us fit Lectures in Hygiene have accompanied formal exercises and contact sports throughout our four years at school Every effort has been made to make us conscious of the fact that the best citizen is the one who has a sound mind in a sound body We have been offered our choice of basketball volleyball dodge ball softball tennis field hockey and badminton No one had the excuse that her particular choice in sports was not included in the program All had to participate and all certainly benefited in some degree from participation Since the majority chose basketball as their favorite sport a spirited rivalry developed among the various class teams. When the smoke of battle had cleared away it was found that the senior team captained by Helen McCormick had emerged as victors. For a truly enjoyable season in sports we have our Physical Education teacher, Miss McDonald, to thank. That she managed to please so many differing personalities as we presented is worthy of the highest praise. We certainly would be most ungrateful did we not express our gratitude. lt is our sincere hope that these lines will convey to her our appreciation of her efforts.

Those who were counted upon to carry the burden of play had left school for sundry reasons. Those who had returned had played some junior Varsity ball, but had not enjoyed sufficient interscholastic competition and experience to warrant putting on the floor a top-flight squad. Then, too, the hours for practice had to be fitted into the part-time employment schedule of most of them. lnconveniences such as these played a tremendous part in the destiny of the team. However, our boys never became discouraged. They worked hard and played hard, and if their efforts were not crowned with success, then the opposition was just a little bit better and more experienced. The prospects for next season, at this writing, are particularly bright.
