The 1979-80 spirit week was great fun for every- one. The Seniors were very active in the events; so active that the underclassmen were ready to have a war, but towards the end it became all laughter and fun. We hope that in the years to come Homecoming activities and Spirit Week can be even more fun. The culmination of spirit week was the coronation of Homecoming Queen, Jean Ritzer. Members of the court were: 12th — J. Ritzer D. Boulton Q K; L. Bushong, C. McIntosh, K. Haskin, M. Green; 11th — K. Korman, D. Aldrich, G. Vieau, T. Beavers. 10th — R. Smith, M. Benoit, A. Wilson, S. Michelin. 9th — K. Ambercrombie, J. Cowell, T. Beadle, D. Weitzel. We would like to give a special thanks to Leonard Hawks whose color photography excellence is visi- ble on pages eight and nine. ii Above: Assistant varsity coaches D. Rowe and B. This victory not only knocked Evart out of a share of the Conference Championship, but also marked the first time in the history of the Jack Pine Confer- ence that Harrison ever beat Evart in football. Post season honors were awarded to the following young men: D. Boulton, MVP; M. Kennedy, MIP; and K. Elya, T. Rolls, and T. Sharp were elected as Tri-Captains of the 1980 season. C. Cross Country to me is probably the hardest sport in High School, running six to ten miles a day. The team worked hard this year, and we had a winning season We should do better yet next year We gave a plaque to Mr Brandon for being such a great coach. He’s the only coach I know that runs with his team, and doesn't yell at them for not doing well. This was my first year out for Cross Country, and I learned a lot about it. You've got to have a sound mind and body to do well. I would like to make a point in trying to get girls to come out. and also more guys. Team Picture: L-R: R. Laugenburg, J. Sulla, L. Coughlin, J. Frauds After graduation, will it still be a cartoon? It will! Joan Stachowiak — If this polock can do it, anyone can! Tom Prieskom — School is a challenge because you compete against yourself to see how much you can learn. Marcia Bailey — The most wasted of all days is that on which one has not laughed. Liu Harcourt — I'm not needy, but I'm greedy, and I live my deepest dreams. Craig Thompson — Here we are ready to go. to live and learn again. The world is nothing but a place in which we have to begin and end. Indy Shut — There are a lot of snakes in the work), but I'm the biggest. Kim Fries— A man is not worth a moment's pain. He is stupid, ungrateful, fickel and vain. I lied! Carla Smith — Thirteen years and the jokes over! More senior quotes continued on page 116. Barb Charette — It is not marriage that fails, it is people that fail. Kim Peterson — It's time for a cool change. Becky Martin — Looks like we made it! I hope others try and make it in future years to come. Bob Haskins — An Athlete without tremendous self-confidence is little better than a spectator. I’m going to school, I feel so grown-up, The things there are great I am told. My enthusiasm extends, as you might have guessed, I have just turned five years old. My friends are great, and my teachers are really fine. I can even spend the night at my buddy’s house, now that I am nine. I'm twelve years old and finally I’ve reached the junior high. To recess and my coloring books, I've bid my last goodbye. I’m holding now a letter, from someone I’ve never seen, It says we should get together sometime, as soon as we’re both fourteen. As a freshmen I walked through the halls, and I feel just like a fool, The older one's stare as I’ve lost my way, and I calmly try to act cool. I’m fifteen years old, and I will never survive, These days seem so boring How I wish I could drive. But now I’ve had my license for a year or less And to tell you the truth I just couldn’t care less. As a junior, the only thought on my mind, Is the two O'Clock bell and that work left behind. Now I'm a SENIOR, and I reach for the stars. This last year of High School, it seemed so fast, And graduation night is here at last. I'm out now, I'm 18, I'm free, and alive But September has come, and I yearn to be five. — Janine Prior HONORS NIGHT On Thursday May 15, 1980 Harrison Community High School held their annual Honors Night. Awards were given out by teachers to various deserving students. The evening was a great success with Jean Ritzer acting as Master of Ceremo- nies. Mr. Tobey and Mr. Rosekrans gave speeches and presented some of the awards. Many teachers including Mr. Du- cham, Mrs. Myers, Mrs. Bosink to mention a few presented awards. A large crowd of nearly 400 people and 200 students enjoyed the ceremony this year. This event is one of the most impor- tant activities of the year because it hon- ors those students who excell in various areas. We hope this great tradition contin- ues for many years to come at Harrison High. ... Baby Picture names on Page 123 nation UMM) This year's graduation took place at Hughes Memorial Field on May 25, 1980, at 3:00 p.m. Over 4300 people attended the ceremony and the weather was excellent. It was a bright sun shiny day with temperatures in the mid 70's. This year's program as well received as speeches were given by School Superintendent Carl Cratzenburg and School principal John Tobey III. Student speeches were given by Senior Class President Jean Ritzer, Valedictorian Debra Parker, Salutatorian Felicia Macheske, and Student Council President Michael Thompson. For the second time in as many years graduation ceremonies were held at the football field. This excellent set up allows for maximum attendance and a refreshing atmosphere. The class colors this year were royal blue for the males and light blue for the females. The girls were each given a white carnation with a blue and gold ribbon. 38 members of the graduating class participated in the singing of the class song, Theme from Mahogany. This year’s class deserves much credit for their participation in this and other school activities throughout their high school years. Glass JlCotto We haue succeeded now.
