Leading runner for the team was Chuck Tomes, who stepped through the three-mile course in the season's best time of 16:11. Dan Gamble provided second place score with his best time of 17:38, followed by Kevin McGinty 18: 16, Cliff Blackledge 19:08, and Ken Dyke 19:42. Coach for the team was Mr. Bruce Brandon, who did an excellent job of organization. In a very competitive regional meet, at Elk Rapids, the team did not fare well. It was sponsored by Lisa Lewandowski, an Eng- lish teacher, and Ms. Shelly Greer, an art teacher. The CAC took many trips to Central Michigan University, in Mt. Pleas- ant, to View art exhibits, hear poetry readings, and see plays: Tartuffe, The Physicists, Little Murders, and The Un- sinkable Molly Brown. They also attend- ed a writers' conference at Oakland Univ- ersity. Then, on the evening of May 18, 1976, they gave a poetry reading of their own, in the auditorium, inviting the pub- lic to attend. Starters were Mark Smith, .Toe Brown, Brad Boul- ton, Robyn Huber, and Jim Yost, with Dee Heintz, Dale Martin, Scott Peterson, Harold Becker, Greg Roy, John Patch, and Chuck Tomes tying up loose ends, in the last few minutes of many a game. They all worked hard together, during daily prac- tice sessions, and games, on Tuesday and Friday nights, to make a team we could all be proud of. The varsity Hornets were coached by Richard Johnson, and by James Schneider, during the Hrst part of the season, when Mr. Johnson was ill. M KEEP UH Tracking Although the Varsity Track record of 2-5 may not seem impressive, nor their 6th place finish in the Conference, what is impressive is the fact that they finished just enough ahead of Farwell and Houghton Lake to help Harrison take the All Sports Trophy for 1975-76 Boys Varsity Sports. The Girls' record of 2-5 demon- strated an effort on their part. Coach Bruce Brandon was pleased by the effort shown at the Conference meet at Farwell against the strong teams of Coleman, Beaverton, and Sanford-Meridian. They were coached by Wylie Sullivan, who was assisted by Jim Burns. The leading hitters forthe team were Brian Clickner with an average of .400, Brian Branch .3l4, Mike Ridge .3l2, Mark Smith .300, Harold Becker 282, and Scott Peterson 266. Leading pitchers were Jim Yost, team captain, with 4 and 4, and Harold Becker with 4 and 4. Their most valuable player forthe season was Brian Clickner with 4 HR, 14 RBI, and 10 runs. They arrived at 8:30. The evening was spent in the park with seniors, from other schools, there for a special Graduates' Night. There were rides, games, and con- certs: one with Eric Carmen, and one with Brownsville Station, along with an appearance by Wolfman Jack. Buses were loaded at 4:00 a.m. Everyone had a great time, though it was apparent, on the 8 hour ride home, that everyone was worn out, as they slept most of the way. 104 S 1 1 1 l l x l l 15? However, in a joint decision by the Drama Department and the Administrative Staff, the play was cancelled. Putting aside rumors for the cause of the cancellation, it is safe to say that lack of cooperation and enthusiasm on the part of some certainly was a determining factor. Whatever the case may be, the cancellation of the Senior Play was precipitated by several problems. As a 1976 graduate, it is my hope that these pages in future yearbooks will be devoted to photographs of those involved in the production of a Senior Play, and will reflect the good feelings shared in a cooperative effort.
