Long recognized as, an earnest and sincere man dedicated to his profession, our Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Charles A. Amble, has decided to place the future of the local school into other hands. After forty years of continuous service to this community we join in wishing the Ambles relaxed, happiness and well-deserved freedom from the demanding school bell, come September of '62. For two score years Mr. Amble's noble influence has shaped the lives of hundreds of children of this community. All have found in him a true friend, worthy of the faith and devotion long evidenced by his students, who out of his more mature and wider life has always quietly sought to guide the young toward saner attitudes, higher intelligence, greater knowledge, and more gracious manners. Long ago Mr. Amble began to lay the foundations of to- morrow which have endured and will continue to endure for many, many years. As citizen, planner, and builder, Mr. Amble has been instrumental in the addition of many fine buildings to the Harrison school. Five major bond issues have been pre- sented to the Harrison voters and each, due greatly to his able, tactful leadership and abiding faith in the people of this com- munity, 'has passed by a big majority, each resulting in an in- creasingly fine school plant. Harrison rejoiced unanimously several years ago ss Mr. Amble, long recognized as a true educator and culture bearer throughout the state, was selected to receive the Oscar for Teachers award from the entire Northeastern District of the State Federation of Women's Clubs. Our hearts swelled with pride as it was decided few people in Michigan have contributed as much to the cause of education. In the classroom, Mr. Amble was ever an artist, seeing in the young before him the good; inspiring and encouraging; mold- ing the precious clay of unfolding personalities; seeking to remove the handicaps that weaken and destroy. Countless letters from former graduates thank him for his guidance and inspira- tion. With the cooperation of a willing and talented helpmate, Mr. Amble has accomplished for this community much more than even the most grateful of us can conceive, and for it all we express our heartfelt appreciation and best wishes for years of enjoyment doing those things together they have often longed to do but Just never quite found the time.

In Appreciation A man with great ability; kindness; and, most of all, patience is Mr. Leonard Hawks. Although an ex- tremely busy individual, he has guided us, tactfully helped us and used his vast photographic knowledge to our advantage. It is said that the one who works the most receives the least reward. This is most certainly true of Mr. Hawks; for each of the pages of this year- book, he has deligently worked behind the scenes. For his ardent supervision, we, the senior class of 1962, are most appreciative and grateful. To him we offer our humble thanks as the Hornet would not have been possible without his assistance.
