gflISS History We bow not our necks,we bend not our knees, but our hearts Oh Harrison we surrender to thee. Between the year of 1951 and 1955 various things have happened. There has been joy, sorrow, understandings and misunderstandings, achievements and failures. In spite of all these things, there was a goal in view, so the class of '55 traveled on. Approximately ninety-eight students made up the freshmen class. We r e ali ze d that all our movements at Harrison would not be happy onesg therefore we expected saddness and disappointments. With the assistance of our p rincipal and high school faculty, we finally chose our subjects as freshmen. After choosing our subjects, we were divided into two groups. Our advisors were Mr. J.S. Midgette and Miss V.Boyd. Each section s elec ted its officers. The officers of Mr. Midgette's section were: president, D arle as e Hodges, vice president, Joe Lewisg secretary, Lillar Stewartg and treasurer, Yvonne Barnes. The officers in Miss Boyd's section were: President, John Hollomang vice president, Millard Pearsong secretary, Leatha O'Neal and treasurer, Sylvester Lassiter. During the year our cla s s was very active in participating in the school organizations and activities. Sylvester Lassiter and Thomas Jones were out- standing in basketball. Darlease Hodges won honors in two speaking contests. The spring of the year came very quickly, bringing beautiful scenery. As for us we will always remember our lovely party held April 26th, Stude nts maintaining highest averages were: Yvonne Barnes, DeLoris Wiggs, and Sylvester Lassiter. Beginning a new year as s ophomo r e s , we felt as full members of the Harrison family. We organized having the following officers: president, Dar- lease Hodgesg vice president, Joe Lewisg secretary, Helen Guilfordg and treas- urer, Lillar Stewart. We still had a large group, so the officers of the other section were: president, John Hollomang secretary,DeLoris Wiggsg and treas- urer, Bettye Cooley. Our advisors were Mr. J.S. Midgette and Mr. F.Parks. Q ui te a few juniors traveled to Elizabeth City, North Carolina in March for competitive classroom work. Those taking the venturing trip were: DeLoris Wiggs, Charles Sanders, Leatha O'Neal, Clinton Bunche, James Mclver, Yvonne Barnes and Darlease Hodges. Each student did afair job in his field of subject matter. In 1954, around September, we entered school to end ourjourney.Although we were two c1asses,we elected officers as a -single group, Theywere: presi- dent, Charles Sandersg vice president, J ohn Hollomang secretary, Bettye Cooley, assistant secretary, Bernice Grandy and treasurer, Lillar Stewart. Our advisors were the same. In November, Deloris Wiggs was crowned Miss Richard B. Harrison. We also had two senior atte ndant s . They were Lillar Stewart and Yvonne Barnes

Prophecy I was awake ned one morning by the ringing of my door bell. And as I opened the door,l almost fainted. Who could it be other than Yvonne Barnes ? Re ali zi ng that we are now living in the Zlst century, seeing her turned my thoughts back to A.D. 1955 and our last days at Richard B. Harrison, our dear old Alma Mater. We had breakfast at Cooley's Luncheonette , owned by Bettye Cooley. Mildred Hocutt is acting as her chief dietitian. Leaving Cooley's we boarded a plane to Selma, North Carolina. We were very happy as well as surprised to see Willie McClain, main pilot on the plane. Upon our arrival in Selma, we were g r e eted by Johnnie Pearce, who is now the principal of Ric ha rd B. Harrison High School. Checking the faculty list we found Rena Davis, Darlease Hodges, Dorothy Parker and Georgia Stokes all having their Master Degrees. All of us had lunch to g e the r and then we checked upon the remainder of our classmates and teachers. Mr. Parks is now president of Meharry Medical College and Mr. Midgette is a judge in the highest court in the Nation. I-le is also considering an oppor- tunity to run for president of New Guinea. Reading over the social page of the HARRISONIAN, a national known paper, whose editor in chief is Lillar Stewart, we found that Dr. Sylvester Lassiter CPI-IDD is engaged to Alice Williams. ClaraClarke and Grace Wilson are cele- brating their silver anniversaries. John Holloman, voc ational agriculture teacher at R. B. Harrison, is a settled bachelor. On the following pa ge s of the HARRISONTAN, we found many interesting facts., Charles Sanders is now head of a research project at the AEC. Bobby Revells is a c o unty agent in Wake County. Leona Peacock, a model, is now working for Millard Pearce, a famous artist. Clinton Bunche, the owner of a large rubber factory, is now a prominent business-man andis married to Yvonne Barnes, a dietitian. John Madison and Andrew MCC ray are five-star ge ne ra l s in the U. S. Army. Wilam Jones is owner of a be a uty salon. Kenneth Reid is a p romi n e nt engineer with five Cadilacs. Hazel Lewis and Bernice Grandy are secretaries in Bunche's fac- tory. Kathleen Watson and Shirley Wiggs are owners of a large night club in New York. Nettie Simms is laboratory assistant to Charles Sanders. Dorothy C a rp e nte r and Felton Holder have decided they are cheaper by the dozen. James Richardson is a prominent farmer in Anson County. Alice Johnson and Alice Richardson are teaching at Howard University. No one seems to know where Helen Guilford, Shirley Laney and Fannie Lane are. Thomas Jones is now playing with the Globe Trotters. Leatha O'Neal is happily married to blues s i n ge r, Charles Whitaker. Margaret Richardson is private secretary to her husband. James Mclver and E dwa rd McEachern are jet flyers in the U.S.A.F. After finding that all my classmates had reached their life's ambition, I decided to return to my job at John Hopkin's Hospital where I am superinten- dent of Nurses. Testators: De Loris Wiggs Yvonne Barnes ,
