Young lovel 32 SENIORS Sophisticated at last!!! XVe walked along the halls and were known as the leaders of the school. As we think hack on our many happy years at Harrishurg Hi, we wish we could live them all over again. XVe enjoyed the dances given hy the other classes, especially the .lun- ior-Senior prom sponsored hy the juniors. For a good time in our own group we had the sen- ior picnic. Last hut most important were the haccalaureate service and graduation which we Will rememher for the rest of our lives. XVe will miss HTHS, where we have had a wonder- ful time, hut we are looking toward the day when we will take our part in life. While providing entertainment for the football fans during the half time and boosting our team, the band displayed their skill at both marching and furnish- ing enjoyable music for all the home games. Under the direction of Mr. Cothran, the hand held the crowds spellbound with their marching formations out on the field. The school should he proud of this, our marching band. The band under the direction of Mr. Marshall Cothran does much in kindling the school spirit. It furnishes all the music during our pep sessions before each bas- ketball game. At Christmas the concert band presents its animal Christmas concert. Members of the community attend to hear the fine Riclmrd Scott, Gr-01-gc Dennis, Xlary Gibbs, music played by our accomplished con- cert band. E701 One of last year's highlights for the band, chorus, and cheerleaders was their Easter trip to New Orleans. XVhile raising the money for this vacation was hard work, the members enjoyed the trip more because of the work involved. The actual journey began in Carbondale where the group boarded a train bound for New Orleans. History came alive to them as they visited the French Quarter with its stately buildings and picturesque parks. Many ate in the restaurants which have made the city famous. Tours during the mornings took the group to many points of interest, and one of the afternoons was spent on an excursion boat seeing the harbor and other interesting sights. The joy and beauty of New Orleans will always remain in the memories of those who took this trip. BAND TRIP New Orleans, VVowl Mrs. Lienesch, Mr. Parkhurst, Mrs. Parkhurst. Their best game of the year was against Carbondale, our homecoming foe. Against Carbondale, the Dogs played ex- cellent defensive and offensive ball while notching a T-0 win. The winning touch- down was scored by Ed Price and the conversion was made by Bon Maynard. The other win was a 6-0 conquest of Marion, a conference foe. The Dogs faced perhaps a stronger group of teams this year than ever before. Of the nine opponents the Dogs met. four of them were undefeated. Eldorado. Mur- physboro, Centralia. and Herrin, and a fifth, XVest Frankfort, lost only two games. VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM Wh- Ruw I: lluvial lxlllllll, Bill 'Q 's. . To open the season they tromped Car- rier Mills 20-0. The next two games saw the Keystone Kids in action executing four rapid double plays. as they fell be- fore Norris City -1-3 and took VVest Frank- fort 8-5. Then on May 2 came the classic, a doubleheader spotlighted by a one-hit, no-hit pitching duel. The masterpiece was served up by NIcCleanshoro's Sandusky who eliminated 19 of 21 hitters, while our one-hit hurler, Zan Hefner. fanned twelve. The final on this game was 1-0, but the Bulldogs bounced back in the second to rack on the XVest. The regular season was completed by knocking off Carrier Nlills again 7-12. and bowing be- fore Metropolis -1-3. Row l: J. L.
