We took the long way home. Honestly. Officer, we're out ot gas. ln that small cafe . We'll never forget the fun we had at our small cafe -Midways. Hurrying down for that after school coke or meeting the gang, we rushed in, filling all the booths and leaving standing room only . We'll be sure to always remember the fun we shared with all our friends and with Sam and Inez. Maybe after that relreshing coke. we took a stroll in the park before going home. Talking over those problems or remembering the day's events, couples shared their friendships. When we didn't walk, we rode, but the car usually ran out of gas! At least that was the story told. C D --nik Although we lived in Illinois. we were able to attend the Mardi Gras. Since our Freshman year we had looked forward to the time when we could attend the Iunior-Senior Prom. Our juniors worked for months and months on the gold crown, the painted murals, and all the decorations that went into the making of a gay and colorful Mardi Gras. Drab old Bonnell Gym was transformed into rollicking New Orleans. Dressed as brightly painted clovnms, the waiters received us at the door. After the dance the Elks sponsored a movie, cr midnight dance, and an early breakfast. F un was the password as we shared the night's events. Home we went, completely exhausted but happy with the 1 . u f, memories of a wonderful everung. Days were bright and everyone gay when this season of the year rolled around. Taking a dip in one of the many swimming holes became a favorite pastime. Along with these little ducks many of our classmates became great water skiers. At least we thought so! Yet all our moods can't be happy ones. Autumn comes, and all that was left of one's dreamboat was a small picture. Sad and starry-eyed. she gazed recalling her summer memories. Maybe we were too old to believe in Santa, but we still had that Christmas spirit. Cold and all bundled tight, small groups went carolling. With the feathery white covering over all the ground who couldn't feel the fun of winter? Meeting Mr. Snowman on the way to school or maybe a snowball in the face proved that teenagers still have their frolics in the snow. Fancy meeting you here. This caused quite a stir with all the clubs and classes searching for garages to cover their floats. The parade was finally called off, but the Bulldogs braved the rain and mud to beat Woodriver. A fitting climax to the Homecoming festivities was the parade led through town by the H.T.H.S. band. The victory of the night before added gaiety and color to the parade of floats. The seniors won first place in the class floats with their clever victory ship made out of thirty-thousand paper napkins, Placing first among the club floats was the l-li-Tri's pink elephant. P MARCHING BAND Another year closes on the football season, but with us are the memories of the wonderful half time entertainment by the H.'l'.H.S. Band. Under the leadership of Mr. Marshall Cothran, the band did a splendid job of presenting a new and delightful program for each game. With precision marching the band did intricate formations. Leading the Homecoming Parade at l-l.T.H.S, and taking part in the Home- coming Parade for S.l.U. were just two of the many parades the band participated in this year. Marching in front of the playing band are the snappy twirlers and the high stepping letter girls led by the drum-majorette, loan Seright. lt can truthfully be said that our band is one of the best marching bands in the state. All their hard Work is appreciated by each proud student as they watch the band marching down the field. Yes it was Mr. Cothran starting off one of the K-9's snappy dance tunes. Playing at most of the dances, this musical group proved most entertaining Kicking off with their rhythmic beats, this group played for the first dance sponsored by the Clarion, climbing aboard the 'Chattanooga Choo Choo , we were ushered down South with their Dixieland jazz, sliding across the dance floor in a Winter Wonderland'f, we were enchanted by their Christmas mel odies. All these dances were really enjoyed by the students However, our K-9's also played many out of town engagements. Along with these they also found time to play at a polio benefit dance. The smooth combo, all juniors, demonstrate their versatility by being able to play for all these occasions. The K-Qs actually gave their best performance when they hypnotized the audience at the annual Music Review which carried the theme, Now and Then, With their different arrangements and varying rhythms, they captured the :tle cf one of the best high school orchestras in the state. The 1956 Keystone salutes the Harrisburg Kf9's for their talent, cofopera- tion in school events, and their interest in the community. 44272 04 I P94 to right: Mr Scimrs T'-1 Prnt-, Urs Cfmildrf,-1 ggi: Fifi Iirzr. KEYSTONE This book you are reading was planned and edited by high school students and their advisor, Mrs. Dolores Lienesch. Beginning early in the summer, the co-editors, advisor, and Chuck from Indianapolis Engraving Company, plan- ned the year book, dummy, and theme, Next came the grueling process of plan- ning and taking all pictures. Copy was written on all clubs and the pictures which were to be identified. The small figures drawn on each page were then put in by the artist. Duplicate editor's dummies were constructed for reference when the original is in the Engraving Company. The two senior Co-editors were Cath- erine Lockwood and lane Lasersohn. As- sisting them Was the staff composed of Beverly Carpenter, loan Gaskins, Dorothy l-lanning, Pat Foster, Bill Skaggs, and Bonnie Williams. The official typist was Shirley Beeder, but before the year was completed everyone had helped. Each year two juniors are selected to train for senior Co-editors. Ioan Se-right and ludy Franks were chosen for this job. The publication of this book was the result of rnuch hard work-before and after hours-but we hope it will give you a lasting record of your high school activities.
