They prepared a booth for the Country Fair, which won lst place. Their money making projects for the year are making cup cakes and selling book markers. It is the plan of the project committee to have a Mother-Daughter Banquet, the first thus far held in the Harrisburg High School. Instead of exchanging gifts as usual, each studentbrought some article of food for the needy. They went caroling Christmas week, and sang to the shut-in members of the community. They also attend the annual Mississippi-Poinsett County Federation meeting at Jonesboro. In Home Economics classes we studied foodpreservationand entered some of the cannedfood in the fair and won lst place ribbons on all entries. Approximately seventy fall garments were made in class for a cost of 5375. 00 with a retail value of around 5500. 00. During home improvement units the students covered two chairs anda stool for the bed room of the cottage. In a Christmas Craft unit many attractive gifts were made, but the most enjoyable craft was the making of stuffed toys and animals. Foods units are always enjoyed by students and by the guests whom they invite on special occasions. B All District 19 .5 y COACHES BEN JONES and BILL BISHOP , . w J I JAMES CARNEY, R,E, All District The Harrisburg Hornets started the football season by absorbing a 26-7 defeat from the Wynne Yellowjackets. The McCrory Jaguars handed the Hornets a humiliating licking to the tune of 31-7. The next two games was more of the same by Corning defeating us 6-O and arch rival Marked Tree 14-6. On Oct. 9th broke the win column in defeating Lepanto by a score of 47-0. This was the start of a five game winning streak. Next came Parkin on Homecoming night. The Hornets had it much easier Q i than expected and handed the class B power house a Z4 to 61icking. The Pocanhantas game was the high point of the season offensive wise. The Hornets had an easy time running up a 53 to O score with all the boys 1? JERRY MOTE, F.B. A11 District KENNETH DAVIS, L. G. NEB THOMAS, R. T. LONNIE HUNT, L. E. A11 District LARRY MCMULLIN, R.T. On the cold rainy night of Nov. 13th the Hornets won their most cherished victoryover the Trumann Wildcats. On this night neither the Wildcats nor the weather could stop the Hornets as they took the Cats 19-0, The Hornets ended on a bad note by absorbing a 28-6 defeat by Osceola. Before the Hornets could settle down and start playing they had given away too much in this game to over come it. The Hornets season was marred by some disappointments, due in many instances by lack of experience in some positions. Although the boys were able to make a comeback after losing four in a row, they gave the students and fans many happy moments during their five game winning streak. They finished the seasonwitha five winand five lose record. They tied with Trumann and Piggot for third place in district standing. ff' X ' f' 7' X13 QI,-h A TOMMY TRAYNOM, L, H, B, JUNIOR HARPER, R. Of the forty boys who reported for football in August, none had any experience. They started coldbut as the season progressed, so did they. By the end of the season they had rounded into a goodJunior team, many of whom could help the Hornets in years to come. Another bright spot was the number of seventh and eighth boys who reported out and stayed with us unto the end of the season although they didn't get to play a game. They gained experience that will be valuable next year. They were coached by Carl Curtner. J ' o W. 5 2 O s' 1 Q 1 'ME ,S ISS, , , , , A as '-' ,Q Q3 5 life H . za A If Y 5 Y I Q 9 I xi asia ig? They are good students, maintain high morals, have a good attitude, and possess desire and deter- mination, Last year's District 3 A cham- pions and State Semi's are doing well for themselves this year, having beaten already some of the strongest teams in this part of the state. At this writing their record is 10 won and 5 lost, of this 15 games the opponents have been stronger than any op- ponents ever tackled in the history of Har- risburg basketball, The future for this club seems bright, ten sophomores compose the backbone of this club, two seniors and two juniors complete the squad. x ALLEN BERRY I? ,......M Most of these boys have been playing ball together all through school. They are all sophomores, which is the class with the highest percentage participating in sports of all kinds. Most of them played on the Junior team last year which went to the finals in the district tournament.
