Freshmen F walking on a morn' in April You should see some bits of green, Slowly rambling towards the High School A most animated scene, You willlcnow by looks and gesture By their faces, too, I Ween, That they're Freshmen. If you go inside the building You can see them in the hall, Some are big and some are little Some are short and some are tall, Some are bright and some are stupid But that's not worst of all, They're Freshmen. Go into a Freshman class-room You can hear each one reciteg Some in Latin, some in English Struggling hard with all their might, Ne'er desparing when they Hunk it. Those children they're all right, WVhen tl1ey're Freshmen. In years after when you see them VValking on life's way, You will hnd they're not so verdant As you saw them at their play, But a change has come upon them Awaiting long the judgment Day g Tl1ey're not Freshmen. 54

, 1 I X History of Freshmen Class I X l Bs Els Ba Much on my youth I love to dwell. Ds Bs Sa FTER conquering the dreaded enemy, the Entrance Examinations, two hundred and fifty-one knowledge seekers entered the Harrisburg High School, April second, nineteen hundred and two. Previous to our entrance, the graduating class had departed from these haunts, and we the Class of 1906, were to ill the vacant ranks. W'e will leave to future history the task of telling how well we performed our mission. A few days elapsed before we made our debut to the school by a triumphant march to the Chapelg after becoming the cynosure of the eyes of the upper classes, we occupied the seats assigned to us, with a feeling that the privilege had been earned. As we looked curiously about to read in the faces of our class-mates, a prophecy of intellectual greatness or to see in their physical make-up a promise of future glory on the foot-ball held, we felt a sense of satisfaction that we were members of this Freshman class. 'With hereditary distrust we cautiously eyed the Sophs, but acquaintance cultivated familiarity and we soon learned the much dreaded Sophomores would not molest us. Shortly after our arrival our nine stepped upon the field. This was the iirst game for many of our boys, yet new and untried as they were, they proved a match for their opponents the Sophomores. We met the enemy, but we were theirs. In this base-ball game, the players contested better than the score CI2'2OD would indicate. It was learned at the close of this game that several '06 players had not been provided with sufhcient padding for their gloves, and that the Sophomores had used a stouter bat. An important epoch in our history was the foot-ball game between our class and the Sophomores. The upper classmen possibly induced by over confidence challenged us for this game. We eagerly accepted the offer and violently fought for the honor of our class. W' ith determined effort we easily went through their ranks and the laurel wreath of victory crowned our endeavors. 56
