Later, when called to tight the Saxons, Arthur dressed 111 a hreastplate worthy ot' so great a king, placed a golden helmet oiz his head. and threw his shield called PRIDWEN over his shoulders, Un PRIDXYEN he had a picture of the Blessed Virgin to recall her to his meniory eonstantly, Throughout the severe conflict Our Lady assisted him until he finally vanquished all his enemies. Vv'e at the Catholic High School selected PRIDVVEN as the title of our yearhook in the hope that every graduate may invoke Qur Lady's aid and ohtain the same guidance and protection King Arthur received. To us PRIDVJEN also has another significance, lt stands tor our Alma Mztter and everything concerning her. It mirrors the heauty of the huilding. It represents to us our hishop, pastors, parents, and friends who from hehind the scenes offer material and spiritual assistance for her growth and development, It is our principal, faculty, student hody, chefs, and caretakers, It is our student government. classes, hand, glee cluh, eluhs and athletic meets, It is our annual school play, drives, contests, and assemhlies, It is the visits from our Bishop, Pastors, and friends, It is our May Croxvning, Retreat, Upen House, Afternoon of Music, Christmas radio hroadcast, weekly Mass, and daily rosary, PRIDVJEN is the memory of all former principals, teachers. and students ever to grace the pertals of the school. It is the prayer for our alumni, henetlactors, and others once active here hut now resting in Eternity. It is the bringing forth of teenagers from seventeen parishes, moulding them as sons and daughters of Clatholic High and at the same time keeping them allied with their parochial duties. PRIDXVEN, then, to us means our coat of arms in which the Cross ot' Christ stands out prominently on the shield, Our Lady holds the most prominent corner, and over and above all the crown of glory awaiting all who remain true to the lessons learned at Catholic High. 271 ,JI Y! Bishop of Harrisburg V T Q To the Most Reverend George L. Leech, Bishop of Harrisburg, do we the students of Catholic High School pay tribute of our love and affection, In His Excellency do we see all the attributes of Our Lord's Sermon on the Mount: the personification of His command, Feed My Sheepg the august object of the Inspiration of the Holy Ghost to shepherd the souls of the Diocese of Harrisburg. Typical of His Excellency is his coat of arms which consists of a shield divided vertically: the left side with the Arms of our Dioceseg the right, the Leech Family. The Diocesan Arms show the shamrock of Saint Patrick impaled upon the Cross of Faith. The crescent from the Harris Arms between the silver discs of Penn symbolize Harrisburg in Pennsylvania, The Leech Arms conf sisting of a wavy horizontal stripe of black across a silver shield signifies a stream from one country to another, The two signify the second migration to America, The three crosses of St. George are for the Bishops Christian name, The motto translated is Not to us, O Lord, not to us: but to Thy name give glory. They nut only assume the financial burdens uf the Sehnol, but also visit it neeasionally, attend its social functions, and instruet the student budy, As other Christs, they lead suuls tu Gnd by preeept, prayer, and example. ln gratitude, we their spiritual ehildren thank our pastors. Shaull as principal of our school, His charity in overlooking our inany faults: his joy in our achievements: his patience as we struggle to do our best: his benign manner as he greets us, one and allg the peace that surrounds him at all times: the inner goodness that flows from him: prove that our principal is close to God and tolerant to youth. Relying on his knowledge and experience, we confront him with our problems. Completely understanding of our difficulties and wise in the counsel he imparts, he provides the solution. He remains modest despite our praise and admiration of his many talents and accomplishments. Truly, Father Shaull inspires one and all to follow his example and to live Christflike lives in the spreading of charity and goodness always and everywhere.
