S N 4 W The meaning and importance of sci- ence in our industrial world ol' today was shown to us in classroom lectures and la- boratory periods. Certain interests, habits. and abilities were developed from the study of science. For some pupils, a definite ap' titude for scientific work as a vocation was discovered, and they were encouraged to continue their study. l7or all there was the benclit ol' learning to thinly discriminatcly and scientifically and the acquircment ol' sliill in manipulating equipment. The subject of biology gave us a bet- tcr understanding of all living life. XVe studied plants, their root systems, leaves, and reproduction. XVe disccted worms and scrutinized the amocba. Microscopes ref vcaled the tiny cells which contain plant and animal lilie. In physics the scientific laws which we use in everyday life were explained. Wforlt and energy formulas were memorized and used. Wle learned the molecular theory of matter, studied light, heat, sound, electricity, and con- ducted experiments proving statements of physical law. Chemistry acquainted us with the basic chemicals that make pos- sible the chemical world in which we live. XN'e studied the chemical changes and composition of matter as we formed and analyzed compounds. The evil-smelling chem lab soon became like home. Many of us decided to enter such careers as lab- oratory teclmician, nursing, medicine, and tngineering, thus making science our life work. Walfer Q. Bunderman B. A., M. A., D. Sc. Wayne R.
