MASS HISHIRY The class of 1955 turns back the calendar to 1943 when we started school with twenty-four pupils and Miss Grace Myers as our teacher. We learned the ABC's and how to count. The first grade girls felt very honored to sing for the Mother and Daughter Banquet. Our second grade teacher was Mrs. Lois Eoff. We learned to tell time. Now we were growing up. With Miss Mattie Heckman as the third grade teacher, the boys an girls were in good hands. We gave the first operetta under the direction of Mrs. Ruby Burton. Mrs. Phyllis Shaffer was waiting for us in the fourth grade. Again we gave an operetta. But this time, we had a kitchen band with egg beaters and pots and pans. Mrs. Garnet Weber greeted us in the fifth grade. The teachers usually looked forward to a class like ours because all of the classes ahead of us were larger and we seemed to be a relief. A flag drill was given by the boys and girls in the fifth grade. On to the sixth grade, but this year it was different the sixth grade had been moved upstairs. Mrs. Helen Mercer was our teacher. As part of the grade Christmas program, we gave a play entitled Our Borrowed Christmas . We also enjoyed a trip to the Toledo Art Museum. Mr. Richard Eldredge was our teacher in the seventh grade. This was our first year of changing classes. We en- joyed a Halloween party at Jerry Lohr's home and the seventh and eighth grade party at school. We gave the Christmas assembly this year. We felt very proud to think that at last we were eighth graders and would soon be entering high school. Mrs. Dora Coleman was our homeroom teacher. A Halloween party at Lowell Rothert's was enjoyed by all. This year we gave a party for the seventh grade. We felt honored to think that we were the last class to have a regular eight grade commencement excercises in Harris-Elmore School. Now we were in high school with Mrs. Kathleen Soenichsen and Mrs. Jean Geis as our homeroom teachers. Seven students came to Elmore from Graytown. We gave a hillbilly wedding for our assembly. We entered the tenth grade with Mr. James Smith and Mr. Charles Rymers as our homeroom supervisors. An operation was performed right before your eyes for our sophomore assembly. We also picked out our class rings this year. We were promo- ted to the junior class with Mrs. Catherine Anstead an Mr. Guy Elsea as homeroom teachers. The juniors presented the play entitled Aunt Cathie's Cat under the direction of Mrs. Dora Coleman. We had to save our money for the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom which was coming in May. The theme of the prom was The Mardi Gras . At last we were seniors, with Mrs. Alvina Kontak and Mr. Lamar Hetrick as our class sponsors. Our Hearts Were Young and Gay was the title of our senior play. We received our senior pictures, invitations, name cards, and ordered our caps and gowns. Our senior year was expensive but the most enjoyable year for all of us. BABY PIIZIIIIHS x 12 ?-.::: gym ,pm my s a si 7,35 . ,4 hssf.
