Looking back on our twelve years of school, we find many pleasant memories. We would like to relate a few to you. We started out first year of school in September of 1942 with 2.1 boys and 14 girls. Miss Myers was our first grade teacher. Our next four years were spent under the following teachers: Miss Ewing, second gradeg Miss Heckman, third gradeg Mrs. Rozine, fourth gradeg and Mrs. Weber, fifth grade. Mrs. Mercer and the sixth graders went to visit the Toledo A.rt Museum and the Elmore Municipal Water Plant. We entered the seventh grade and found Mrs. Schroeder to be our home room teacher. We gave a play called John Speaks for Himself and sang two songs for a Thanksgiving assembly. In the spring the eighth grade honored us with a party. We also had a Halloween party this year. When we came back from our summer vacation, we found Mrs. Coleman as our teacher. For this year's assembly we had a television show. Charles Haar invited us to his house for a hayride and a Halloween party. In the spring we gave the traditional seventh and eighth grade party. At last came our eighth grade commencement at Oak Harbor. Look at those proud boys and girls in the halls! Could they be our new freshman class? Yes, at last we were freshmen and on the first step of our high school career. Our class sponsors this year were Miss Thomas and Mr. Smith. We found that we had acquired twelve new classmates. This brought our class total to 51. Ten of these were from Benton. We gave a variety assembly. The band from this assembly won first prize in the Kiwanis Club Amateur Contest. Our next step was the sophomore year under the direction of Mr. Smith and Mr. Rymers. For the first tiine our class was divided. Part were in the science room and part were in the study hall. We put on an assembly representing a traffic court. Our home room teacher for the junior year was Mrs. Anstead. November 14 we presented the play, A. Lucky Penny . We gave the Easter Assembly. In May we honored the seniors with the Junior-Senior prom. The prom theme was a Hawaiian Cruise. At the annual Versatile Banquet, the junior girls were initiated into the organization by the senior girls. At last we are seniors! Our pictures were taken by the Powell Studio on October 17. We ordered our name cards and invitations for commencement. We had participated in many other activities that go with the senior year. The juniors honored us with the Jun- ior-Senior prom on May 15. We gave the senior play on April 30. We are proud of our boys that rxfade the track, basketball, and football teams. We are are proud of our P 'n' G staff, the Helm Staff, and the librarians. We shall never forget the happy times or memories that we carry in our hearts as we went through our twelve years of school at Harris-Elmore High School. May she hold as many pleasant memories for the classes that are coming up. A. began the year with 28 members on roll and Mrs. Barker as their advisor. The main project of the year was the buying of a mimeoscope and base with the the help of the P 'n' G. Several other undertakings of the year included the sponsoring of a home- coming dance after the Oak Harbor vs. Elmore football game, with the Home- coming Queen and her attendants reigning over the dance. They also sponsored several dances after basketball games, a pancake supper, and basketball pro- grams. The Chapter, by paying half the expenses, made it possible for next year's co-editors and business manager of the P 'n' G, to attend the Journalism Work- shop at Bowling Green State University this summer. During Easter vacation ZZ members and Mrs. Barker took a trip to Detroit Michigan, Windsor, Canada, and Bele Isle. On the return trip the girls were privileged to be on the same train as the Detroit Tigers. Some of the girls dined with them and several of them received their autographs. On May 17 the Chapter gave a party for the Genoa F. B. L. A. Chapter and prospective members of the local Chapter. ! Old Officers New Officers 11. After everyone is finished with his meal we listen to a very fine program. This program really puts us in a wonderful spirit of this gala celebration. Finally the tables are cleared away and we hear an orchestra tuning up in the background. This begins our annual ball at the Mardi Gras. Soon the time grows short and it is time to leave this beautiful romantic spot. We realize though that we had a wonderful time at the Mardi Gras and wish we could return again. , lf ,ss xi 'La J, 1 -l?
