Today as through the years another First Lady is presented. Two milestones in Whitney history are the twenty-fifth volume of First Lady and the graduation of the Class of 1966. Two years, 1944 and 1945, were missed during World War II. This anniversary of First Lady marks a quarter of a century of hard work and some achievement. Graduation is the other important event here com- memorated. This day we leave friends and teachers to go into the world and establish our own lives. These may be our greatest days so cherish them. Dedication A spark to create a fire within, an inspiration to strive for the best, a friend to understand, a guide to lead in the right direction — is Alvin C. Bippus. It is hard to believe that each honored senior, cheery junior, wondering sophomore is an individual; but with Mr. Bippus ' s concern for the Whitney family, we truly are individuals. This is why the Class of 1966 dedicates our yearbook to him. If. .. J4win C vDlppiAi MR. WALTER ARDNER Acting Principal Sincere congratulations on the twenty-fifth edition of the yearbook, First Lady. The editors and staffs of preceding annuals have done ex- cellent work in preserving cherished highlights of yesteryears at Whitney. The composition of the 1966 book upholds the traditions of those of the past. This volume will be treasured now and even more in the future. Those in the graduating class have acquired the necessary skills in their chosen vocations to begin adult lives as useful members in a com- petitive society. Your aims and ambitions will determine the degrees of your future success. Whitney trained graduates have proved themselves to be worthy and well qualified for business and industry. Keep this fine heritage. May health, happiness, and success be yours. It was a beautiful day of Indian Summer. The sun was warm and lazy. Leaves of red and gold hung on the trees. I drove down the highway, watching the beauty around me, scarcely aware of the flashing milestones. As I drove on, the numbers became more notice- able, began to take on interest. One hundred eighty-seven; one hundred eighty-six; eighty-five; — four! What did they measure? Where did they start? Where did they end? What do milestones mean? I thought of home, school, work, all starting places. I thought of the numbers going down, down, as I neared my destination. I thought how fortunate I was that skillful people engineered the road, marking so clearly the way. Then I knew what the milestones meant. Others have charted the course for me to follow safely. I can travel the highway because others have gone before me. I can choose my destination because of others. All of us who are part of Whitney travel to- gether, depending on each other, toward our goals. We rejoice together as we pass each new milestone. — Susonnoh West M Hpspsr B f ■•I 1 s 1 m. H 1 SI -v ' . H il w .. . H Twenty five years — twenty five First Ladies telling the accomplishments, growth, successes of Whitney as gradu- ates make their contributions to the com- munity and add honor to their alma mater. Graduation Day 1966 marks the passing of your first milestone, prepa- ration. Where will 1991 find you? Oliver Wendell Holmes said, The great thing in the world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving.
