Foreword Shadows is the theme of 1959 First Lady. No matter what we do, where we go, shadows are inevitable. They will always be there to advertise to everyone our actions good or not so good. The shadows of days spent learn- ing at Whitney will last forever. How glad you are when you finally feel that something worthwhile has been accomplished! The shadow of the first Whitneyite roaming the halls, shadows of classes during a routine day, especially shadows of the many activities in which we participate. These are a permanent record of your school experience. May all shadows bring pleasant memories. No matter who you are or where you stray, Whether you have tried to make the most of life each day, Something is beside you, yes No matter where you go, Something is beside you, Almost as close as your very soul. Men call it a shadow, a deprivation of light. lt's really a second conscienceg lt could change your life from gloom to bright. From infant creeping To a man tall and straight, Your shadow follows you, Through sadness, happiness, love, hate. When you question what you're doing, Is it wrong or is it right? Will it bring a happy dawning, Or will it sadden night? Is it for the good of others, Or for your own selfish greed? Is your main purpose in life To help those in need? If you won't listen to your conscience, Please take this advise Take a good look at your shadow, Then for a decision, think twice. As the years go on, Think of all the things you have doneg Then thank the good Lord for your shadow and pity the man who has none. MFlorence Kosier
