A native of Wauseon, Ohio, from where she graduated in high school, Mrs. Florence Wells has led an active, interesting life. Her career began as operator in a telephone office. She graduated from Davis Business College, and became office manager for a leading insurance company. Working for Geer 81 Lane, attorneys, as legal secretary, she began the study of law. Mrs. Wells held office as clerk in the Toledo Municipal Court, the first Woman to serve in this capacity. In this position, she graduated from the University of Toledo with the degree of LLB and passed the Ohio State Bar examination fBachelor of Lawj. Besides the degree of LLB, Mrs. Wells has a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Masters. She practiced law with Kirkbride, McCabe and Boesel, and also under the name of Hunt, Stickney Kz Wells. She served one term in the Ohio State House of Representatives, one term in the Ohio State Senate, three and a half years as assistant prosecut- ing attorney, the only woman to serve in this capacity in Lucas County. Because of the closing of Ohio Savings Bank and Trust Company during the depression, Where she served as assistant trust officer, Mrs. Wells took a position at the city Welfare department in charge of distribution of clothing. At Davis Business'College she taught accounting, shorthand, and legal secretarial classes, then in 1941 became co-ordinator at Whitney. Mrs. Wells has held many offices in various clubs: past president of the Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club, past president of the Zonta Club, served on the Toledo Charter Commission one term, past president of the Toledo Women's Bar Association, past mother advisor and district deputy of the Order of Rainbow for Girls, past Worthy matron and past deputy grand matron of the Ohio Eastern Star, past president of P. E. O., served on the board of the National Office Managers Association, served thirty-two years on the executive board of the Florence Crittenton Home, At the present, secretary of the Personnel Women of Toledo. She is also a member of: Pi Gamma Mu, honorary sorority on sociology, Pi Lambda Theta, honorary sorority on education, Kappa Beta Pi, international legal sorority. Mrs. Wells has one married daughter. In June, 1958, she resigned as assistant principal of Whitney, but is still active as principal of night school here. Mrs. Wells was not only a fine co-ordinator but a real friend to all Whitneyites.
