Since girls are divided into the shops of their own choosing in the sophomore year, by the time they are seniors their working patterns are different. All shops except Office Practice cmd Cosmetology have week-about schedules, in which the girl works a week and goes to school a week alternately. Office Practice attend classes until noon, the rest of the day is spent in cm office on a co-operative training program. The girls in Cosmetology work on people from the outside giving permanents, hair cuts, facials, manicures. In the spring, this group takes the state board test to see if they qualify as beauty operators. ln March seniors ioin with the remainder of the student body to celebrate Whitney Day, the school's birthday. They partici- pate in shop meetings and Senior Forums twice a month. The classes sponsor roasts, skates, and parties. Over Easter vacation seniors take a trip to Washington, to visit the nation's capital. Just before commencement they hold the prom, a lasting memory for every girl. Then the big day arrives. Eyes sparkle as each girl walks on stage to receive her diploma, a thrilling moment in her memor- ies of school years. She has worked in harmony twelve years with other students and faculty members, now she is ready to prove her- self capable of bigger responsibilities. s V, ig .1 L are . 'Eg P . The sophomore class of '54 had many questions in mind when they walked through welcoming doors of Whitney on September 8, 1954. They were now entering a school which will try to change them into women able to have a career as well as establish a home. lt is different from the academic schools they originally attended. They have to learn to work hard for the skills necessary to job success. However, school is not all work and no play, for they sponsored an all sophomore dance, the Halloween Hop, a delightful party. Time is spent on other activities, such as shop meetings, in which the girls plan and learn to know classmates better. Assemblies held in Macomber auditorium are open to sophomores as well as upperclassmen. The entire school participates in a Christmas party, which is like no other such occasion. ln the spring sophomores elect officers who try to fulfill their wishes in the iunior year. By the end of the second semester they begin to understand Whitney and the opportunities she offers those who are willing to accept them. 1 X 7 l 'X' J ' n it ll Xl X' X Xl X Xin!
