What a collection! f to +5 The production of Annie Get Your Gun by the Music, Band, and Drama Departments involved many hours of hard work by all those involved. Ap- proximately one hundred students spent the better part of seven weeks preparing the classic Irvin Berlin Mu- sical for presentation to the school and communtiy in December. Rehearsals were at the times hectic, frantic, and frustrating. In spite of these problems, and the fear that we would never be able to pull it off, the old show business cliche the show must go on prevailed. We went on with the show and Annie got her gun, man, and her well deserved ap- plause. The cast and crew of this pro- duction felt as if there was no busi- ness like show business. As they pass through, meaningless tra- ditions are dis- carded, and new traditions are in- corporated, thus each class leaves its own mark. T' T ' The class of nineteen eighty is no exception. Each student put a little of his own personality into Harrah High, and brought change, little by little, into the personality of the school as a whole. One student, Gary Lewis, is leaving a very spe- cial new tradition that will echo throughout the school long after his graduating class is gone. - Gary, a very talented musician, composed and ar- ranged an alma mater for his school. Our Harrah High School, Long may you stand Stan- dard of excellence throughout the land. You gave us friendship, laughter and tears- Treasures we'lI cherish throughout the years. One hundred forty-four different personalities, dif- ferent smiles, different thoughts and different styles have all combined to make one very special group. We've shared all the feel- ings felt, all the tears cried, all the laughter laughed, and all the sighs sighed. All the hopes that were hoped, all the awards that were won, all the battles that were lost, and the good things that were done, were all expected as we entered this year with open arms. Now the senior class of 1980 remembers the fears, tears, secrets, sor- rows, seasons, crushes, crashes, delights, disasters, dreams and dates, hassels, heartaches, gossip, grades, giggles, break-ups and make-ups, all of which will remind us of our time to- gether. Although most people will forget these pages we've ,written to the senior class of 1980, the memories will linger with us forever. . jUNlORS Adams, Cathy Albin, Todd Alexander, Melissa Anderson, Philip Bagwell, Lynn Batt, Cindy Baits, john Beach, Gene Benson, Wanda Bishop, Kim Blenderman, Mary Borruat, jean Brannon, Bill Bray, Kristine Breed, Kirk Brumfield, Marcus Burghart, Keith Byers, Paula Campbell, john Carkin, Chris Cassiday, Charlette Clark, j.R. In the classroom, minds struggle to absorb facts ranging from two plus two to the correct spelling of kazoo to who fought at Napoleon's Battle of Wa- terloo. The football team of 1979-80 had a successful season, and we are Harrah 28-St. Mary's proud of them. Harrah 12-jones Harrah 21-Haskell They began in August, under the hot summer sun, to practice for the Harrah 0-Bristow season ahead of them. When school started, they put in hours after Harrah 16-Tecumseh classes. They worked from the blistering heat of the summer sun to the Harrah O-Wewoka cold north wind of late fall. Six wins and four losses was the winning Harrah 28-McLoud record at the season's end. Harrah 21-Holdenville Harrah 17-Henrietta A special thanks to Patrick Hargus and james Pierson, both graduating Harrah 14-Seminole three-year starters, to the hard working team and to the coaching staff for a winning Season. What can a basketball team do when they have no height? Our boys were faced with that problem early in the year, and they came up with an answer, loud and clear-use speed, and they did. They were fast moving and fast thinking, in addition to being a high-percentage shooting ball club. They presented their fans with fast moving and high-scoring games, matching wits with top rated teams all year to bring a season of excitement to the fans. The boys got off to a good start in the Sooner conference, dominating the other teams. The preseason polls rated them highly and they con- tinued to break into the top 20, then into the top 10 in 3A during the year. The team brought home a first place trophy from the Bristow ln- vitational Tournament, and placed second in the Panther Classic. They were nicknamed The Termites, Meek's Midgets, and The Mighty Munchekins, but they commanded respect as they successfully con- quered giants throughout the year. The 1980 team was a team small in stature, but mighty in spirit and pride. l T B o YY BS A S K E T B A L L Senior Toby Martin goes in for the lay-up. ,ff f 44 yi I ll 51 Row 1, I. That 'slogan was TAKE STATEY lN7980T DFW time and the rest of the season will tell if this goal is accomplished. However, the team has shown the ability to contend with any team in the state. While get- ting off to an 8-2 start, the team has played four rated teams. They defeated two of those teams and narrowly missed winning the other two games. This performance has the team excited about their chances. With continued im- provement, good support, a good draw in the playoffs, and a little luck, the girls might just accomplish their goal. If you were to wander by the pool anywhere from 2 o'clock to 4 o'clock you would probably see several red-eyed, slightly green haired, dripping wet beings. No-they are not creatures from outer space-they are the Harrah Swimmers. Swimming is a new sport in Harrah this year. For the first time since the pool has been built, it is being used competitively. The Harrah Swimmers have done quite well this year in dual meets and several have placed at A.A.U. meets as well. The team's excellent progress can be attributed to their coach, Ashley Hutchison. She turned a bunch of uncoordinated kids into good, fast swimmers in just a few months. Swimming is not an easy sport. It takes just as much time, energy, and effort as football, basketball, or any other sport. The thrill of racing against, not only other swimmers, but also against yourself and trying to better your own times is just one of the challenges of this sport. From suffering through the 500's freestyle, the 200 I.M.'s and the long, hard workouts is the thrill and excitement of meets and win- ning. For swimmers, it's always life in the fast lane. We made it through the de- cisions, discussions, disappointments, deadlines, delays, plans, pitfalls, tears, fears, frustrations, photographs, hassles, hard work, headaches, and heartaches to the pride of a project completed. We made a lot of mistakes along the way, some of them we caught, and some of them we missed, but we each put a little of our- selves into this book for each one of you. FRONT ROW: fLEFT TO RIGHTj DAVID IORSKI, KEVIN SMITH, IULIE MURRAY, LARRY FERGUSON, RHONDA NELSON, SHERRY HUTCHINSQ LAST ROW: fLEFT TO RIGHTJ MIKE COLLYER, DAVID SHIELDS, BECKY REAVIS THESE FORMER HARRAH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS NOW ATTEND OSCAR ROSE IU- NIOR COLLEGE. WHY? Mark Voyles, a 1979 graduate of Harrah, is a freshman journalism major at ORIC. While in high school, he served as yearbook photogra- pher and president of Photography Club. In addition, he sometimes assists the Oscar Rose Public Relations Office in taking pictures such as this one. Mark is also the chief photographer of the college student newspaper, 15th Street News. I came here because it is close to home. The campus is clean and it's easy to find your way around. Freshman Kevin Smith is majoring in computer science. He participated in basketball and baseball while at Harrah. I like the student! teacher ratio. The classes are small and the tuition is less expensive than a large university. Rhonda Nelson was quite active at Harrah, where she participated in basketball, band, yearbook staff and the National Honor Society, She also served as co-captian of the drill team, reporter of the senior class and treasurer of FHA. A secretarial administration major, Rhonda came to Oscar Rose because it's close to home and the tuition is reasonable. I really like the teachers because they are willing to help students. Would she recommend Oscar Rose to others? DefinitelyI The people are friendly and the teachers are helpful. Rhonda received a Regents Tuition!Fee Waiver Scholarship to help her begin her college education at ORIC. Sherri Hutchins is a freshman majoring in business administration. While at Harrah, she was active in the newspaper staff and FHA. Sherri came to Oscar Rose because, it's close to home and a good place to start an education. ORIC is a friendly school and the teachers are good too. Mike Collyer, a 1979 graduate of Harrah is a freshman at ORIC. While in Harrah school, he participated in football, baseball, and wres- tling. He was awarded a wrestling scholarship to Oscar Rose. I hope the teachers here-they really care. It's a friendly college. David Shields is a freshman at ORIC with a major in corrections. ln high school, David received football all-district noseguard and little all-city tackle honors. He also received a wrestling all-state honorable mention. David received a wrestling scholarship at Oscar Rose. I have many friends who go to school here and I really like the campus. Becky Reavis was very active at Harrah. She served as drum majorette, Booster club representative and president of the French Club. She was named Band Queen, FFA Sweetheart and Who's Who in Foreign Languages. A freshman business major, Becky likes Oscar Rose because, it's close to home and a lot of my friends come here. The teachers are helpful too. David lorski a freshman majoring in business at ORIC. While at Harrah High School, David participated in Band, cross-country, track, yearbook and photography club. David received a Regents Tuition!Fee Waiver Scholarship to help him begin his college education. The teachers are helpful and the classes are small. I would highly recommend Oscar Rose to anyone. Larry Ferguson graduated from Harrah in 1977 where he partitipated in many organizations. He was active in drama, FTA, Spanish Club, Library Club, and served as president of French Club. When I was considering colleges, I came to Oscar Rose and observed some classes. I was impressed with the small teachers and small classes. Many of my friends came here and I'm glad I decided on ORjC. julie fMurrayj Rupp is a 1979 graduate of Harrah. A freshman accounting major, julie chose Oscar Rose for the Accounting program and because she received a Regents Tuition Fee Waiver Scholarship. I like the teachers here. They really care and want to help students. I would recommend ORIC to anyone-it's a good, all-round school. Oscar Rose offers 60 degrees and nine certificate programs designed to prepare students for a career or transfer into our colleges and universities. High School students who have completed their junior year may enroll in classes for college credit.
