MARNIE SHERIDAN 1954-1972 When last we met, there was among us Laughing-eyed, one who stood on tiptoe to meet life. One who sought for answers, meaning, every- where. That ' s the way it ' s always been was not enough to slake her thirst For knowing why. Yet, told the story of a lonely man, She was not ashamed to cry. Because, I guess, there were times — And that right often — When she was lonely; Her kind of people always are. We who live in black and white (not living color) Saw how, Ophelia-like, with flowers, she reached too far. But a man ' s reach should exceed his grasp, The poet said, Or what ' s a heaven for? Always now for us — the laughing-eyed, the tender, slender girl Keeping time to the music that she hears — And we do not weep for her, whom we have loved, But rejoice that she has lived. — Mrs. Alfred Overholser 29

PAULA If you have not met Paula Rippon, the New- Zealand A.F.S. student this year, you have missed something special. At first glance, she is a vivacious blonde with an interesting British accent. As you get to know her you find her to be a girl who finds time to play in spite of the fact that she is carrying an unusually full schedule at school, where she is a member of the Student Council and a Senior Class Cheerleader. Many Seniors also found her witty comments relaxing during the Senior Play. In ad- dition to her school work she sings in a choir and has a part-time job. We are grateful to the A.F.S. Club for giving us an opportunity to meet and know Paula. 30
