Miiin ei ' i I s f ' i c n ' clDck in the morning and a marching band is dancing around on the pier. A mistake, perhaps? Are these people expecting someone famous? Not at all! It ' s list the people of Mackav celebrating the long-awaited arri al of Harpers Ferry. As a port visit. Mackay was outstanding. Residents kindly offered transportation, showed crew members the sights and occasionally invited them over tor a home-cooked meal. In turn, many crew members ()lunteered in town for educational or social activities. Be it sharing stories with children at a school or helping out at a nursing home. Harpers Ferry crew members did it all. When we weren ' t taking advantage of all the free uncheons and promotions surrounding our arrival, we were isiting places like the Whitsunday Islands, the Great Barrier Reef, and the rain forest o ' Hungella. This final foreign port visit pro ed that sightseeing and shopping may be fun, but meeting people is the most rcwariiing part of deployment.
