This was a coordinated eltort between the entire Boxer ARC. and one in which Harpers Ferry contributed to placing nearlx two thousaiui Marines on Kuwaiti soil. The exercise has been ongoing since the end of the GuirWar. allowing U.S. Marines to get training in a real world en ironment while serving as a deterrent against Iraq. Since Harpers Ferry carried nearh all of the vehicles for the 13th Marine F.xpeditionary Unit Special Operations Culpable (MEU SOC). the offload took a considerable amount of time. Fourteen torklifts and the ship ' s crane were called upon to remove countless vehicles, tanks and ancillary gear. Additionally, fifteen Amphibious Assault Vehicles ( AAVs) and the lone Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) were launched, making this a complete offload.
