158 Student organizations formed the heart of social life during the school year. There were clubs that appealed to every inter- est, and a vast majority of the student body participated in at least one. Organizations planned many activities throughout the year. Every club decorated a wall during the Christmas season, and each club built a float for the homecoming parade. Field trips that combined cultural interest with enjoyment were typical of many of the club activities. The functions of most clubs contributed to strong school spirit and support. Organizations were formed at the beginning of the year when students elected officers and designed their initial plans and pur- poses. Each organization planned meetings at least once a month throughout the year. The meetings evoked many creative ideas from the members, and the leaders proved to be responsible as they accomplished set goals.
