CUMMA 1 i The change of command ceremony is a time- honored tradition which formally restates to the officers and men of the command the continuity of the authori- ty of command. lt is a formal ritual conducted before the assembled company of the command. The change of command of a naval ship is nearly unique in the world today: it is a transfer of total responsibility authority and accountability from one individual to another individual. Prior to the official ceremony, the captain was presented the ship plaque at a Hail and Farewell party, which also welcomed CDR Young aboard. Senior officers, including Commodore Roberts, the captain's reporting senior, and RADIVI Hildreth, Comcrudesflot Four, were presented side honors as they arrived aboard. I relieve you, sir, l stand relieved were the spoken words which saw the conclusion of a truly memorable deployment. . - . . ..........,.,p,
