S . v v - v . . , GIRLS BASKETBALL As our frrst practlce for basketball season approached we were wnthout a coach untnl Mr Chadbourne kmdly consented to do h1s best as he was unable to contnue the prac tlces one of our alumnl namely Earl Mitchell took over and was very patxent wlth us Our team was startlng out with two of our players mlsslng Meredxth fCurt1sD Chad bourne who graduated and Arleen Ames who moved away Durmg our practlces we found several grrls who were capable of taking thexr places Our first game was a real struggle wlth North Anson where overtxme had to be played and we came out vnctorlous That same nlght we nearly had heart failure when two flat tlres almost caused three of our top players from getting there on time The fnrst trlp to Jackman was postponed because of a snowstorm One of our highlight games of the year was with the Alumm ln whlch they were the sad losers The All Star game was played at North Anson The two gltls chosen to play were Betty Cowette and Loretta Gourley Wxth all of our trlals and trouble thus past season we are stnll very proud of our basket ball record The highest scorers of the seaso1 were as follows Jo Ann Huff wxth 272 pomts Loretta Gourley wlth 251 pomts Maxme Anms with 21 pomts Other scorers for this year were Glenda York with 26 pomts, Judy Huff wlth 8 pomts and Sharon Carr with 7 pomts We as the members of the glrls squad of Harmony Hlgh wlsh to thank Mr Chadbourne and Earl Mitchell for the wonderful job that they have done
