Excuse me folks Rodnu has another loke and xou can bet lt mll be a GOOD one Thercfole I close I could use a laugh ught non l I uella Cardner 53 THE GHOSTLY AVENGER When Nat Thomas struck gold m the Rockles he kept the location of hls mme a secret Many men trled unsuccessfullv to locate the entrance but he had concealed It so well that lt could not be found One day as he was returnmg from a trlp to town Nat Thomas was at tacked and beaten by 'a couple of masked bandlts who trled to make hlm tell them the locatlon of the mme After takmg a telrlfic beat mg Nat gave m and told the men where to find the entrance to the mme As soon as the men learned the lo catlon of the mme they shot old Nat and prepared to head fol the mme Before Nat dled he swore that no one would ever be able to work the mme and take any of the gold As the two men reached the mme entrance they were Jubllant to thmk that they would soon be r1ch As the men dlsmounted before the entrance the last thmg 1n their mlnds was the curse put upon the mlne by the mur dered owner Llgntlng the kerosene lantern hangmg yust 1ns1de the en trance the two men walked along the natural caveln toward the ve1n of almost pure gold that vms soon to make them rlch As they neared the spot descrlbed bv the old m1ne1 they ww ere fl ozen to the spot by an echomg SCIEOUTI that mverberated through the network of natural tunnels A the echo dled the men remembered the curse for an lnstant but soon for ffot It agam as they Spled the gllt ter mg xem of gold about twenty feet ahead of them As the two men ran toward the xevn one of them screamed and was 1erked upward to the hlgh celllng a noose around h1s ankle He dldnt make a very plettv plctule danglmg' by one ankle fifty feet above the floor of the cave and screammg echoed through the cavern When ghostlx sclefxms that echoed and re- .
