RACHEL and VINCE SALLY and BRAD HOMECOMING 1980 First Place: Seniors Second Place: 9th Grade Third Place: 7th Grade Homecoming festivities began with the cheerleaders sponsoring Spirit Week from September 29 to October 3. Coronation was held on Thursday night with Gary Prinsen and Nacia Johnson being crowned as king and queen by Dino Lange and Karen Torgerson, 1979 king and queen. The Junior king and queen were Tim Miller and Carrie Kohlia. On Friday a parade was held in the afternoon with the Seniors receiving first place on their float. The football game was played that night with the Cardinals triumphantly defeating the Wykoff Wykats 35-14. A dance by Conquered Jam” was held after the game. That was just the beginning! Throughout the regular season Coach Elston had his players ready for the game. The team's hard work led them to an undefeated regular season, and the Maple Leaf conference championship. Harmony was victorious in their first play-off game against Lewiston, which won them the District 1 title. The Cardinals defeated Henderson, leading them to a state semifinal game against Mountain Lake. The team traveled to Mountain Lake. The fan support for Harmony was tremendous. At the end of four quarters of play the game was tied at seven. Mountain Lake scored a touchdown in overtime to win the game 13-7. The Cardinals finished with an 11-1 record for the 1980 season. Tomlonson 37 “LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE” On November 13 and 15 Harmony High presented the musical comedy “Little Mary Sunshine.” The play takes place in the Colorado Rocky Mountains with Little Mary in danger of losing her inn. The Forest Rangers enter looking for female companionship, and the plot deepens as wild Indians are lurking close by. Captain “Big Jim” Warington saves the day by defeating Yellow Feather in hand to hand combat. The inn is saved and everyone lives happily ever after. The 1980 Harmony baseball team started out the season with seven returning seniors. The regular season was slightly disappointing, but they went on to win the first game of the district tournament before bowing out in the following game. At the banquet on awards night, Coach Koehler presented Brad Boice with the prestigious Most Valuable Player award. Also recieving an award was freshman John Dennstedt for the Most Improved Player. The boys won the conference and the Lewiston Invitational and finish second in Districts. The boys regular season record was 16-0.
