This is a completely homemade Wilson Cloud Chamber for the visible demonstration of the alpha particle trails in a saturated atmosphere. Alma placed third at the State Science Fair in Missoula. Linda Corbett's project, Paper Chromotography, received a 3 rating at the District 9 Science Fair in Denton. This was a display of the results of the separation of the various pigments in common compounds and in plant pigments. Activities this year consisted of a Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, District Music Festival in Lewistown, and sponsorship of an MSU Band Concert. 36 ALL-STATE BAND PARTICIPANTS These three students, Nancy Malesich, John Robertson, and Audrey Zikmund, participated in the All-State Band in Missoula this year. 150 students from various cities in the state of Montana were selected for this honor. High School Chorus The high school chorus, under the direction of Mr. Sherman, presented a Christmas Concert and a Spring Pre-festival Concert. At the District Music Festival in Lewistown, this group received a Superior rating. ALL-STATE CHORDS PARTICIPANTS Sandra Blumer, Nancy Mielke, John Ortwein, and Elsie Mielke were among the +00 high school students from all over the state chosen for All- state Chorus at the State Music Festival in Missoula this year. Clarinet Quartet Harlowton Clarinet Quartet composed of Nancy Malesich, Connie Barnes, Mary Ginther, and Kay Wojtowick. This group received a 1 rating at District and attended All-State in Missoula. Trumpet Trio This year, 1962, the trumpet trio was started for the first time. The members of this trio are Duane Lammers, John Ro- bertson, and Gail Galahan. The trio was rated excellent at the District Music Festival in Lewistown. 38 Student Council The Student Council officers are: President - Bob Franks; Vice President - Dave Blaquiere; Secretary - Sandra Larsen; Treasurer - Lee Burrington. The group was quite active this year, introducing such functions as Dress-up Day and Maynard G. Krebbs Day. The Key Club, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, was formed in the latter part of the school year. Even though it had a late start, it participated in many activities such as having a car wash and helping clean up the town on Clean- up Day. Officers are: President - John Ortwein; Vice President - Bob Franks; Secretary-Treasurer - John Robertson. Rebound Staff This group of students put out our weekly school paper, the HARLO REBOUND. Sandra Larsen and John Robertson were the co-editors. Mr. Jones was the advisor. Under the leadership of Editor Sandy Blumer and despite many disrupted meetings, this group worked hard to complete the annual for this year. Mr. Jones was the advisor. 40 The year began with a trip to Missoula for 2 days for Speech Orientation. Bob Conley placed third in the district in Oral Interpretive Reading. He represented the district at the state meet held during Interscholastic Week in Missoula. Mrs. England was the sponsor. Speech Club Drama Club The Drama Club, under the direction of Miss Erickson and with the help of Mr. Moran, presented three one-act plays, a Black- light Christmas pageant, and TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON. This group was the first to put on a play using the school's new stage. 41 The G. A. A. began quite late in the season, but afforded the girls some practice in the points of basketball. Mrs. England was the group's sponsor. This group, sponsored by Miss Lehfeldt, formed the nucleus of the Harlo cheering section at all of our football and basketball games, and really supported the Engineers. Pep Club Jean Watson, Kathy Fochs, Kay Wojtowick, and Kathy Zikmund, the A-Squed cheerleaders for 1962, cheered enthusiastically and stuck with the Engineers through success and failure. Sports The Harlo High School relay team, composed of JOE BRIDGES, SANDY WATSON, BILL HINER, and DAVE BLAQUIERE, broke the school record for the 880- yard relay, running it in 1:37 2. BILL HINER tied the school record for the 100-yard dash, running it in 10.3 seconds. He broke the school 440 record at Interscholas- tics, running it in 51 9 Scholarship Salutatorian NANCY MALESICH and Valedictorian NANCY MIELKE LINDA STEWART was a semi- finalist in the Merit Scholarship Qualifying Tests for 1962. Who’s Who Music NANCY and ELSIE MIELKE have received superiors on their vocal duet for the past two years. This yesr they were accompanied by SUSAN NISSEN. Elsie also received a superior on her vocal solo.
