Student Council 1954 -1955 Council this year has revived the cornmitiee system as a practical modification of its elimination last year. By allowing the committees to organize themselves through incentive and also on the basis of necessity, the system has functioned ideally. Coun- cil's activities have included the very successful Park-Harley weekend, as organized by Judy Whiting, various candy sales, and a paper drive. At this Writing, the annual Tri-School Party is being contemplated. An in- novation in the procedure for elect- ing council representatives has been adopted which reduces the nurnberof ballots required to a minimum. Coun- cil plans to leave a project notebook for the reference of succeeding s u dent governments describing its activities ofthe year and containing suggestions for improxements It is hoped that this notebook will pro yide a point of departure for future undertakings We trust that the Coun cil of 54 55 has niade an important contribution to Harley PRESIDENAI VICE PRESIDENT 0007 X ALFDIC TOlllXlx L arol Fuuna SALLTA TORIAN l ma llaxcus Ogfweu AllC11Cray Srcwart Wilson SFCRETARY Carol Fumia TREAbURl1R Tina Hamm ' 1 - . It is unfortunate that at this writing our basketball season is just getting under way, but from our records thus far we can venture some hopeful predictions. For the third successive year We have started the season un- der a new coach. This year it was Mr. Wallace, and his coaching has been invaluable. After learning much about soccer, victory, and defeat from him, we went to our first basketball practices with a definite lack of material, yet with a great deal of confidence in our own determina- tion and in Mr. Wallace. To date, the team has only played two CUPS League games., Pebble Hill and Allendale. Each of these games was played on foreign ground - an obvious disadvantage. We beat Pebble Hill 52 - 42 in an almost perfect exhibition but lost to Allendale 88 - 43. Though the score of the latter game was so lopsided, our Harley team never stopped fighting. Even when, with only a minute left of playing time, a forty point difference stood in their way, the never-say-die boys from Harley fought like Five General Custers. In addition to the fighting spirit evinced in this battle, the team was able, later, to pin-point its mistakes. By cor- recting our errors through practice, by using the basketball know-how taught us by Mr. Wallace, by using plain common sense, and by fight- ing harder than ever, the Harley basketball team intends to become a convincing threat to the CUPS League participants.
