The Hobbit Mr. Bilbo Baggins. the hobbit, wasn't at all fond of loud noises, or strange people, or unpleasant places. But when Gandalf, the wizard, asked him to help recover the dwarves’ stolen treasure, the adventurous spirit in his blood began to boil. With the help of Gandalf and his friends, the dwarves, Mr. Baggins conquers ogres, slimy lagoon creatures, giants, and finally slays Smaug, the horrendous fire-breathing dragon, recovering the dwarves’ long-lost gold and freeing the people of Dale. Under the direction of Mr. Dennis Bilyeu, the Harlem drama department presented its first musical production, “The Hobbit”, in a rollicking and lighthearted manner. 24

Christmas Concert This year’s Christmas concert was a combination of the traditional sounds of Christmas and the original sounds of today. The A Cappella choir, for the first time, performed “Night of Miracles”, a medley of songs telling the com- plete story of Christmas. The Band, featuring “Russian Christmas”, told of Christmas in other countries. As the band and choirs performed, the little candle of Christmas glowed in everyone’s heart, even though Santa Claus was unable to make it! 26
