After going through a winless season last year the Tribe tied for third place in district with a 3-3-0 record. At the beginning of non-district play the Chiefs suffered three consecutive losses. Signs were developing that another long year was just ahead. That feeling was shattered when the Tribe came back to defeat Central Catholic 28-20 in the last pre-season game. Ibl Inches from the sidelines, Jimmie Guerrero heads for paydi rt. 108 Sports losing streak first two district games victoriously defeating Brackenridge 7-6 and Laredo Martin 21-0. Then the tide abruptly turned when the Indians were handed two straight losses by South San 7-16 and Laredo Martin 0-14. The taste of victory came again when the Indians dominated Burbank 26-14, but it disap- peared when the Tribe fell to McCollum in the traditional clash 0-26. Team captains for the year were Robert Duran, Greg Luse, and Raul Reynosa. All three captains, along with Anthony Trejo, made the All-District Team. - ' if Left to Right: lTop Rowl: J. Uriegas, L. Team potential becomes a reality The basketball team used enough talent and experience to finish second in district, after going through a disappointing season last year. They did this by winning 9 out of 12 district games. With Coach Pete Zuniga providing the in- struction, the team fell only to Brack and La- redo Martin while trying for the district title. Joe Gonzales, the team's leading scorer, averaged about 28.0 points a game to become the city's leading scorer. He alone scored 36 points against Marshall and again at Holy Cross. Non-district action also saw the Indians rack up 105 points against Marshall to set a school record for the most points in a game. Players making the All-District Team were George Gonzales, Charles Migl and Joe Gon- zales. Joe was also honored as 3OAAAA Player of the Year and given Honorable Mention on the All-City Team. These times re- quire a more flexible society, one which is able to meet with variables as the come along. To cling to traditions which have proven themselves out- dated is to live in a culture lacking in its full potential. If there is a need for change then the initiative must be taken. Whether it be fashion, com- munication, or technology we must live for today while thinking of tomorrow with the past behind us. ll f,.t Wi. 7' ' JBA! av Y Q A 'M -.. , ,,.W 19.
