The five girls who formed the nucleus of the group were Taza Davis, Maya Fowler, Ebonie Patterson, Rebec- ca Muhammad, and Shonda Wells. With so few members, the team was unable to win any meets, however, many of them won first or second place in some of the indi- vidual competitions in which they swam. While other squads had six or more girls, the Harlan cheer- leaders, with only four cheerlead- ers, finished fifth place in this year's only competition.
