Whether un- derway or inport, the men of Deck Department were out getting the job done. The operational schedule of Marine Amphibious Readiness Group QMARC-l 1-88 included 12 Am- phibious Exercises, seven vehicular offloads and onloads, five Underway and Vertical Replenishments, and countless hours underway steaming, ln every evolution, the men of Deck Department took charge and got the job done quickly and safely. HARLAN COUNTY provided the first wave of each assault with her 15 Amphibious Assault Vehicles tAAV'sl. Following the precise Assault Timeline, the underway launch team car- ries out the launch at exact intervals to lead the assault. After the initial waves, Marine Corps and Seabee jeeps, trucks and bulldozers are needed on the beach. Deck Department car- ries out the offload, in which over 50 vehicles are transferred ashore, some over the bowramp onto a Causeway bargefferry some over the sterngate onto a causeway or large Utility Landing Craft The Boatswain s Mates and Deck Sea men landed the LCU s guided the causeways in directed all vehicle movement and ensured safety throughout the com plicated evolution The Gunner s Mates also had a major role in several ev olutions ln addition to gunshoots drills and small arms train 14 lul. 1988-Present i i .
