'29 HARPOON Sophomore Prophecy One evening at a great big feed Pickles and cake I ate galore I ate and ate, and ate and ate' Till I could eat no more. That night I dreamed an awful dreamg It turned me eoldl with fright. I thought that Satan grabbed at meg I 1'an with all my might. But all in vain, He took me up High, high into the airy When lI looked down I found that I Could see most everywhere. But all the world was muchly changed: Your teachers old' and gray, Are sitting by their firesidesf' I heard grim Satan say. You're seeing thirty years aheadg Look quick, 'twill all go soon Because you've served me fairly well, I'm granting you this boon. I looked to see whom I could findg A salesman I espiedg A wealthy, happy family man. That,s Knappy there, I cried. I glanced at Broadway in New York And chief among the sights The actress Agnes Benning's name Stretched out in blazing lights And Charles Kees sadly sitting there In pipe-dreams spent the dayg Still dreaming of the Gwendolyn fair Who's long been gone away. Jean Curtis in another school, An English teacher great, Was dfawillg wages -much too large For one of her estate. Page Thirty Marion Brindley making cheap cigars Had grown so very slim, But had a nice fat pocketbook And nothing worried him. And Harry Book, a graduate Of some Northwestern college Was taking care of Frances H. Was happy as could be. Then looking a-s closely as ever I could. I espied Margaret, Gladys and Thel- ma P. That three old maids from my class there'd be I never did think I would see.
