IIIETETIC Our dietitians provide the cadets with a good wholesome diet. School tables are furnished with an abundance of best grade, well-cooked food. The faculty, their families, and students are served at the same tables and with the same food. This, in addition to assuring the patrons that their sons are properly fed, helps to develop that intimate relationship between faculty and stu- dents which has ever been the policy of the man- agement of Hargrave Military Academy. Dir-titimz The first tloor of the new building provides a commodious dining room which seats 450 people. This provides for cadet corps, faculty, visiting teams, and antly and wholesome kitchen is equipment guests. The dining room is pleas- attractively designed to assure at and healthy environment. The telebinocular with the Keystone Visual Survey Test is used in the Reading Clinic for the purpose of screening-out students with visual dif- ficulties. In those cases where difficulty is indicated, treatment or examination by an eye specialist is advised. Before the cadet comes to school each year, however, we suggest that the parents have his vision checked by his own physician. REMEIIIAL READ! G Reading disability is recognized as a major cause of failure by secondary school students. To meet this situation and to provide assistance to Hargrave students, the Academy has organ- ized and equipped a department of Remedial Reading. Students desiring or chosen for this training are tested carefully for the purpose of discovering the weaknesses and causes of dis- ability. In cases of extreme difficulty individual in- struction is recommended. Each pupil needing remedial training is placed in a group having corresponding reading abilities. This group re- ceives visual training to develop speed and ac- curacy, and exercise in such skills as reading for detail or for precise directions, vocabulary build- ing, and word recognition. In the majority of cases rapid progress and improvement are ac- complished. The student who removes his reading disability opens the way to a freer and more enjoyable high school career. The tachistoscope, a tlash device, is used for developing visual skills in slow readers. lixercise in reading numbers, words, phrases, ami even sentences timed from 1X5 second to lf10O sec- ond gradually increases speed and accuracy in recognition of printed material. Pupils in Reme- dial Reading classes receive this training to- gether with other types of drills and exercises necessary in the development of reading skills.

The Academy is vitally concerned with the promotion of good health among its if f cadets, and the prevention of sickness and injury. A coordinated, twofold medical V' program providing for prompt, adequate care is therefore provided for each Cadet. tlj The Academy Physician main- tains regular hours at the clinic and makes infirmary calls to treat minor disabilities and ambulatory patients, and to give diagnostic and clinical advice. The nursing staff is in attendance 24 hours a day whenever the Academy is in session. Q21 The Academy Student insurance Plan supplements the services of the Academy Physician by pro- tecting the cadet against the ex- pense of the more costly illnesses and injuries requiring inhrmary or hospital confinement, hospital treatment, or the services of a -WH A K A school physician, resident nurse, practical nurse, and two cadet medical officers provide twenty-four hour service in the Infirmary when needed. surgeon or consultant. The Academy Student Insurance Plan reimburses the cadet up to the specified limits described herein for these more expensive illnesses and injuries, thus pro- viding comprehensive protection. Cadets are protected by the Academy Student Insurance Plan twenty-four hours a day-on campus or off- from the open- ing day of school in September through the closing day in june.
