My especial praises for those first students who entered as full time students Sept- ember 11, 1957, remained in good standing as full-time students for two years, and are graduating with the Associates in Arts Degree this June. During these first two years of Harford Countyhs Junior College, the students, faculty and friends have worked together to accomplish much. These first students have been a precedent setting group of pioneers. With the help of the community, a firm foundation has been established on which future classes may build. We can be proud together of our accomplishments thus far, and continue to work together to build a better college.

Classes History of Harford Junior College In May, 1956, at a meeting of the Parent-Teachet's Association Presidents, interest was aroused by Mr. William Bell for the development of a local junior college. After conducting studies of junlilor college development, a committee, with Mr. Bell as chairman, was formed to organize the co ege. After much planning and consideration, Dr. John W. Musselman was approved as dean of the new Harford Junior College in July, 1957. In September, 1957, Harford Junior College opened with a faculty of sixteen, four full-timc staff members, and one-hundred nineteen students enrolled in five major currieulums. Officers for the first Student Council were elected in November, 1957. They were: Donald Thompson, President; Donny Bromley, Vice-President; Carol Moulsdale, Secretary; and Philip Barbre, Treasurer. Also in November the Harford Junior College Newsletter made its first ap- pearance, and the college became a member of the Tri-State Athletic Conference. The first annual Convocation was held in December, 1957, with Dr. William F. Peirce delivering the main address, entitled The College Objective. In January, 1958, a radio series called Developments at Harford junior College WaS presented over WASA in Havre de Grace, Maryland. The Rotary Club announced that it was sponsoring a scholarship fund for Harford Junior College in May, 1958. The seal committee announced the winner of the seal contest, Mr. Fred C. Toboll. Mr. Joseph S. Treu was appointed registrar. It was in August, 1958, that Dr. Musselman was notified by the University of Maryland that it would accept all credits for successfully completed courses of transferring Harford Junior College students. In September, 1958, a new college year began with 23 instructors, and 254 students. The second annual Convocation was held in Navember, 1958, and Dr. John H. F ischet spoke on A Pwsonal Matter. On November 29, Harford Junior College was admitted to the Junior College Council of Middle Atlantic States. It was also made a member of the Maryland Association of Junior Colleges and the American Association of Junior Colleges. In January, 1959, a course in electronics was added to the college curriculum. In February, 1959, plans for the first yearbook, The Owl , were under way.
