Dr. John W. Musselman opens the Convocation Dr. John H. Fischer, Superintendent of Public Exercises Instruction for Baltimore City gonuoaafion The Second Annual Convocation of Hatford Junior College took place on No- vember 10, 1958, in the Bel Air High School Auditorium. The processional and recessional music was played by Miss Sandra Hines; the Bel Air High School Glee Club rendered musical selections under the direction of Miss Reba Snader. The Reverend William P. Walker, minister of the Mountain Christian Church, pro- nounced the invocation and the benediction. Flowers for the stage decorations were furnished by Richardson's Florist Shop. Following the Convocation a te- ception was held in the cafeteria where delicious refreshments were served by the wives of the faculty members, and an art exhibit was on display. Dr. Musselman gave the introduction to the Convocation exercises, announced the scholastic winners,- and then stated the goals of Harford Junior College. The Dean then introduced the guest speaker for the evening, Dr. John H. Fischer, Superinteniient of Public Instruction for Baltimore City. Dr. Fischer gave an impressive talk reminding each of us that our mental ability is the most important source of power that we have. He discussed our potential ability to use this mental power for a better understanding of all man- kind in the never ending efforts to achieve a world free of prejudice, inconsider- ation, and misunderstanding. The most important aspect of his talk was directed toward personal soul-searching and the acceptance of acquiring an education as the responsibility of each individual. It is only by each individual accepting the challenge of education as A Personal Matter and striving to improve himself that the world will also be improved. 18
